I went to pick up after my Ridgeback 9 month old the other day in the backyard ... one of his pieces had white squiggling things in it. Bigger than maggots but shorter than worms ... could this have grown inside there on it's own from my backyard insects or is this something in my dog's belly?

Those are digestive worms and can be treated with a simple over the counter dewormer. These and roundworm are the most common types of worms however digestive worms are a lot less harmful than any other type but still need to be treated. Make sure you treat your dog once every two weeks for a total of three treatments. I'd recommend the liquid dewormer because it works best.

Take it inot the vet (the worm thingy.) It sounds like tapeworm. It doesn't show up in the fecal exam a vet does. there is a special wormer for it that is only available at the vet. Tapeworm can kill, so better be safe than sorry!

My dog actually had something like this about a year ago. It looked like grains of rice. He was diagnosed with tapeworms and roundworms. The vet said he got it from fleas. Weird, huh? But what you are describing sounds bigger than what my dog has. My dog had to take something orally to clear up his infection. Please go to your local vet. Your dog sounds sick. He probably is not eating right or behaving as usual. Poor baby!!!!!

Make sure you are not feeding him "people food". Grains, rice, corn is okay but I know some people who feed their dogs whatever they eat. That is not good.

When you go to the vet they will need a fresh stool sample.
Your baby should be fine.

Good Luck!

Sounds like tapeworm. Take your dog to the vet for the correct medicine. Tapeworm cannot be cured with the same stuff you can buy for round worms. You need to see a vet.

Your dog likely has worms.. You should take him to the vet, get the worm diagnosed properly and treat the worm with the proper medication.

Most likely this is something from the yard or deposited on the stool by flies. Tapeworms egg segments are about the size of rice grains, and only move for a short time after they are expelled. They can be seen in fresh stool and often around the rectum.

Is your dog really hairy? They could be many different species of maggots. Bot flies (Wolf worms, which grow quite large), Wool maggots (my friend had a Newfie that got them once), or regular maggots feeding on an infection your dog already had. Not sure, Let us know what the vet says, would be really interested in hearing the findings.

Sounds like your dog has tapeworm. Take a stool specimen to the Vet and have it checked. They will give you the proper medicine to treat him.

if you saw this immediately after he did it, then it is tape worms. the longer ones are rounds - look like spaghetti.

take a fresh stool sample to the vet however often tapes are not found under the microscope. the larva must be present
