Ok...so after I posted the first question Gandalpth started to throw up blood. So I called the vet and he called me back and told me to give him some pepto-bismal...now from what i read thats toxic to cats. Is that true??

Yes, it can be as it contains aspirin--which cats can have a difficult time metabolizing. I'm surprised the vet recommended this over the phone without seeing the cat. The amount of vomiting your cat is doing is quite serious, and he could already be dehyrdrated. A trip to the emergency vet for bloodwork is definitely in order.

Yeah, either a stupid doctor or someone piked up the phone and didn't know what they were talking about.

Besides, Pepto-Bismal does a few things but one of them isn't stop a cat from coughing up blood.

Call the vet again and make sure he said it and meant it. If he was sure... Call another vet.

Pepto Bismol can be lethal for cats but can be given in very small amounts under the direction of a veterinarian. JMHO but I would be more comfortable using Kaopectate. Did your vet say how much Pepto Bismol to give? If you aren't sure, call your vet again and clarify the dosage.

I'd take Gandalpth to a different vet on Monday. I'm not thrilled about the care he is getting from your current vet, according to what you've been posting.

I feel your vet should have had you bring the cat in when you reported that he was vomiting blood. I suspect the reason he didn't is because it's Saturday and he doesn't want to interrupt his weekend.

Pepto-Bismal is toxic to cats, but you can give Gandalpth Kaopectate.

I don't know - but call back the vet and get a proper dosage!
