I'd say I wasn't willing to have them there. You owe no one any reasons for your 'no'. I am still trying to teach myself that.

well if i were the type of person that just could not stand a dog in my home then i would be honest and tell them no way no how BUT if I could handle it a few days I would say nothing and let the whole family stay with me.(especially if I wanted to really visit them for a while). People do think of their dogs as part of the family so what else could you do?

It depends why they wanted to bring it. If it was someone I cared about and they didn't have anywhere else to stay, then I'd be more likely to let them bring it. But if it was just, oh we want to come for a visit and hate to boarf Fifi, I'd say no. Or if they wanted me to keep Fifi for them for a few days while they weren't even there, I'd say no, better they find someone who likes dogs. It's kind of stupid to ask someone who doesn't have a dog to watch your dog anyway. You could always claim to be allergic and that once you got the dog dander in the house you'd never be able to get rid of it. Just be polite but firm with whatever excuse you give. If there is no desperate reason to bring the dog, they are really rude to ask.

I honestly think you are asking the wrong crowd but my advice would be that you set some quidelines such as the dog must be crated when that person is away and they are responsible for the dogs care. While you are not obligated to let them stay I think this is a fair compromise for a few days. I know you may hate dogs but you don't hate the person who loves the dog do you? Who knows you may not love dogs by the end of the stay but you might grow to tolorate or even like them.

First off if these people are your friends they would ask you if they can bring the dog with them giving you a chance to say I really don't want any dogs in my house.
But if they just show up with the dog you need to tell them that you really don't want the dog in your house and could they find other accommodations for the dog, If they can't honor your request I mean it is your house then maybe they need to find other accommodations for them selves and the dog or just don't come. Let them know you rally like visiting them but you can't accommodate the dog at your house.

Tell them: (don't lie)

1. I don't know how to handle a dog.

2. I have a thing with dogs.

3. I have a bad experience with dogs.

4. I might be busy while taking care of the dogs.

5. It depends if the dog is potty trained and won't ruin my furniture.

I think it kinda depends on who wants to bring the dog. If it just a friend they should understand you don't like dogs and get over it. If is someone like a parent or sibling maybe you could bend alittle, only of course if it is a well behaved, decent sized dog. If it is some kind of monster that is gonna wreck your house then they need to get over it. I bring my dog with me quite often, even on vacation but then again he is a Border Collie with over 5 years of EXTENSIVE training in both obedience and agility. He is trained in both verbal and nonverbal commands.
I honestly would not be offended if someone told me I couldn't bring him because everyone is different and if they are gracious enough to open their home to me and my family then we are gonna to respect their wishes.

I would be honest and tell them you don't allow dogs in the house, but help them find an alternative. Is there a good boading kennel nearby? Can the dog be kept in a crate in one room? Try to come up with options if this person is important in your life.

Hard to imagine, cause I love dogs :) But if it's your house, and you don't like dogs, they shouldn't even ask to bring their dog. Say no, it's your house and you don't want the dog there.

Say" Love and glad you want to come but I really don't like dogs living in my house" "I like them from afar not in my living room, sorry but need to tell you about it before it becomes a problem." OR I'm allergic to dogs sorry" lol.

How about I am really not a dog person. Although I would love for you to come and visit do you mind boarding your dog? If they have a problem with it them they don't come, simple as that. Just be honest with them.
