ok....i asked a question about pinworms about a week ago, but now i have another...ok, i hope this does not confuse anyone. ok, i asked a question about my 2 year old who pulled on his diaper acouple times in a couple days, it looked like he might be trying to scratch his butt, all of a sudden i got paranoid (however you spell it) BECAUSE of two reasons, 1. i used to think i had a pinworm, but it was never confirmed, i never even had symptoms really, it would just feel like i had something crawling out every once in a while, but it was after i had read about them. so i thought my son could have got it from me maybe 2. is i read it in a baby book once when i was preg and always told myself to watch for it just in case, but i have been looking at his butt at night like people say to do and i dont see anything, i looked 3 diff time last night.....and i am up about to look again!! would i see them for sure if he had them? he also hasent scratched himself. am i being paranoid? more signs??

I was told by a doctor when I used to work with horses (a common transmitter) that if this happens you can get a diagnosis by pressing a piece of scotch tape against the anus (sorry for the graphicness) at about three in the am when the worms are most active. Bring this tape sample to the doctor for confirmation. Sometimes though, an itchy butt is just an itchy butt.

Gosh just reading this makes my butt itch! Preschools are a bad place to get them and I know first-hand. I just thought I had everything in the book covered until we found them on my daughter crying one night; they were crawling all out; yuck! After educating myself on them it helped. You need to go ahead and call the doc. He/she will have you put scotch tape on the anus in the morning (pinworms lay their eggs at night around the outside edge of the anus so morning is the best time). Sometimes you can't see them and the eggs are microscopic, so just do the tape test and the doc can look under the microscope to let you know.

After taking the meds, you still have to be vigilant b/c the eggs can live on hard surfaces for two weeks so you can reingest them!!!! Be sure and wash and double dry everything, bedsheets, clothes; disinfect the house and common places that they might touch (toys, door handles, etc). I did this immediately and kept a "morning routine" until all the worms were expelled -about three days(you will see it in their bowel movements). First thing in the morning I would get the kids straight out of bed and into the bathtub (to wash off any possible eggs laid overnight) and hubby would strip the sheets and bleach them in the washer. After the worms were expelled we could live a normal life again. (Although for that two week period I was still very vigilant of pinworm eggs like on the couch or something-- I would have the kids wash their hands constantly; especially before they ate.

Most docs will be vigilant enough to give you another dose of the pinworm drug to take after a couple weeks, just to be safe. Good luck...

It may sound a bit silly, but try putting a small piece of scotch tape around his anus for a minute. Then once you pull it off, you should be able to see the tiny worms on the tape. If there are any.

Sweetie I think you are being a bit paranoid. I had three children and only one of them ever had worms.

And yes that is how to check at home. He may have just had a little bit of irritation that caused him to pull at his diaper. Everyone gets an itch on their butt occasionally!

You can always take him to the doctor, they can treat for pinworms. Also, if he has them you'll be able to see some in his feces, read this to find out how to spot them, how they treat them and more.

dr oz says to put a piece of tape over the anus and they will stick to it when they come out or whatever then you will know. i have no idea if you are being paranoid.

your son is 2!?!? you can give him deworming tablet for children. children do scratch sometimes due to clothing sometimes or from the food they ate. if still having doubts see your pediatrician
