I was on this one website in order to get a free book on a certain subject I was interested in that the tv preacher had mentioned on his program that day. I clicked on it and it took me to another pg which said something like "You first must give a donation in order to claim your gift". They might as well have put a price tag on the book, huh?

As a Christian I have never been impressed by the madison avenue gimmeckery employed by some evangelists. As easy as it would be to dismiss them all most balanced minded people would realize that there not all like that and that for every so called rich minister there are scores who are not making that much. At least in Canada where I live. I would also add that yo are going to find shams and irresponsible practises in every dimension in life not just in Christianity for those who use this as another excuse to dismiss the message. However I do think it is a tradgedy as we should be living according to a higher standard. I do also think some ministries have over extended their budget and are now fleecing the believers in order to keep alive a television ministry that costs large amounts. That being said I agree with your initial statement I would rather buy the book than feel like Ive been tricked or I would rather be begged for money than offered a free gift with strings attached.

I have to agree on this If it free then they should asked for money But it should have metion a doation if the have not put out a price our group give out New Testaments we ask for a donation that would help with some of the cost we never say if you don't donate you don't get your books so use this is not right Christ said give freely and freely you will recivesomedays we get nothing other some small change then other time some will come along and help us with the of the book and opertion It is a petty to use Gods name for money makeing in the bible Christ chased the seller out of the temple

to Rev. Terry: Stronger, ask anybody who works on a lively market: When you have an item that cost 3 (in any currency, but the tota value should not be too high). You shout:" 1 for 3 and 3 for 10", many people will buy 3!
Try it, you will see.

have a nice day. I really enjoyed selling.

Friend: A more appropriate statement would be, "This is what this item will cost us to buy and ship to you. Anything above that amount will be appreciated." That kind of offer is directed at people who do not want to think for themselves. Jesus wants us to be "thinkers". Years ago where I worked we sold bus tickets. I always sold more when I said, "a strip is three fifty and they are on sale at two for seven." You cannot believe all the extra strips I sold just because they heard the word "sale."
Jesus cringes every time anyone in His name uses a play on words to their advantage. Shame on us if we do that!
Rev. Terry

If it said you MUST give a donation, then it's not a free book. To be honest, I would rather go without the knowledge the book holds than let them think their little marketing ploy is getting the best of us poor little sheep. Just walk away....LOL

It doesn't really affect me. I approve of Christians paying for their silliness or seeing the hypocrisy of those they follow, either way. So, no, I think this is positive.

Honesty is the best policy, in most cases. Isn't it ironic that self-professed "religious persons" are untruthful in situations such as you describe???

Bloody con, claiming something is free and then asking for a donation. Either it's free or it isn't.

My dad gets regular mail from Benny Hinn "ministries". I have not seen a single letter not asking for money.

Bloody disgrace these tv evangelist bastards.
