Hi, congraduations you are getting a new puppy! Chihuhuas are really cute. Although, they can be kinda yappy, being little dogs. If you have a short-haired chihuahua, the coat care is really simple, just brush with a shoft brush, and bathe about, every 6 months, unless your pooch rolled in something. You my think, eww, 6 months? Over bathing a dog will damage its skin and coat. A long haired dog will need bristle brush brushing every day to prevent tangles and matts. Your pup will need proper training, first the basic sit, down, come, stay, kennel. If you are expereinced with dogs, that should be a no biggie. If you want info, try the website below, or akc.org. that site has links, breed ind\fo, breeders, and classifieds. I hope this helped.

Well, you may be getting a Chihuahua but you are not getting a "teacup" Chihuahua because there is no such thing! I am a Chihuahua breeder and I breed to the AKC standard developed by the Chihuahua Club of America. There are two varieties of Chihuahuas: smooth coats and long coats. Other than coat, they are exactly the same breed. I have enclosed links to the Chihuahua Club of America, my own web site and those of two other breeders who breed very nice Chihuahuas. I also recommend that you get a book or two on the breed.

Your puppy should not leave home before eight weeks of age and preferably not before ten to twelve weeks. My puppies usually stay with their mother until they are eight weeks old. No puppy will ever leave here under twelve weeks of age. That way they will have had two puppy shots before they leave home.

A puppy should stay with it mothers until they are eight weeks.

A good toy dog breed, Chihuahua is a toy. There is not such thing as a teacup, it's two small Chihuahua breed together to get a smaller dog.
A good toy dog breed, will keep the puppies until they are 12 weeks.
I would by an book, or look up care of Chihuahua on the Internet, before you get one
Good luck

I would wait until the puppy is 12 weeks. Most responsible chihuahua breeders won't even release the puppies until at least 10 weeks. They are very fragile and prone to hypoglycemia. Keep caro syrup on hand and if the puppy acts lethargic give it some to raise the blood sugar. They will die rapidly from hypoglycemia. Also, be careful not to drop the puppy on its head. They're skulls don't fully close until they are older. One drop on the head or accidental kick in the head could kill it instantly. I would leave the puppy with the mother until at least it's 10 weeks old, but 12 weeks is better b/c they are so tiny and fragile.

ok well i got a chihuahua about 2 years ago and he was my first dog. but you should definitely take your new puppy to some training classes because i know that my dog is very tempermental around people other than those that come over to my house very very often so you should definitely try to socialize your dog as much as possible i can not stress that enough. oh and you should definitely ask the breeder what kind of food the dog eats. i knwo i had to try about 3 differnet foods and is very picky with food. my dog really likes royal canine for chihuahuas and it is good because he is able to recieve all of the specific things that chihuahuas need. ok this is my last tip and that is to make sure to brush your dogs teeth and i would recomend starting it out as soon as you get yyour dog even if it is hard and he tries to stop you force your dog to let you because it will get a lot harder to brush them as they get older and if you dont brushtheir teeth they will have to get professionally cleaned at least once a year which can be very expensive.

It's against the law to sell a puppy before 8 weeks of age. It really needs to stay in it's home until then. Go onto www.akc.org and read up on them. Also search for Chihuahua Club of America. They will have alot of useful info for you on the breed.

The longer the puppy is with the mother, the better socialized it will be abd the better equipped to meet the world. I say leave it with the mom till at least 10 weeks but if you MUST get it before that then 8 weeks at the earliest.

You should get the puppy after he's 8 weeks old. I would suggest you search online for info about how to care for your new puppy, as well as info on chihuahuas. Congratulations!

The best source of information should be from the breeder you buying your puppy from. That is part of the price you are paying for..the breeder's knowledge and advice. A breeder wants to make sure their puppies are going into good homes and will be properly cared for and trained to become the ideal household companion

If they can not help you, consider buying elsewhere!

Really

Eight to twelve weeks is the suggested age to take a puppy from its mother.
