I am a 15 year old christian girl, and my twin brother (who I am extremely close to) is as well. I am strongly opposed to underage drinking, doing drugs, etc, but my brother seems to be very curious about both...And his standards for himself seem to be changing. He just got drunk last weekend at my cousin's house, and he really wants to try pot, but he has promised me that he wouldn't ...I'm thinking that despite how much I don't want him to do these things; he is going to have to learn on his own. I just hope that it doesn't cost him too much--he has alot to lose. He is an amazing person, and is highly, highly intelligent. Should I take back the promise between us, and tell him that he will have to learn on his own...or what? I am SO confused...

There was a report out today that marijuana may lead to schizophrenia. I suspect there are things we don't know about this drug yet. The problem is that he is already drinking. In my ministry I have seen more youth effected by alcohol then by drugs. I have also buried more youth for alcohol related reasons then drugs.

It sounds to me like your brother has a real problem. I agree with the person who said he won't keep the promise anyway. I think it may be time to talk to your parents about what is going on.

Ask yourself this: Does God really want me to be influenced by a mind altering substance? I used to smoke weed and plenty of it but when I really started to live for the Lord and decided to put away with anything that got in the way of my relationship to Him I knew I had to quite. Even then it was kind a long process because I still gave into it a little hear or there but finally I just decided and it was time and haven't since and am much happier and feel better now. Also when I visit friends that still smoke its like there mind is all numb and they don't go anywhere in life its like there still in high school still or something, sad. dont be afraid to offend people, Jesus paid the price for our sins and its through Him alone we have life. If you love people you tell them because you want them to be able to have life to

Well, first read Genesis 9:20-21 for an example.
In the Bible we read of man's sinful nature. Just because we are a Christian does not mean we are some Glow in the dark perfectionist. We try to do what is right, but, sometimes we fail. This the whole reason for Jesus. God has tried to separate His people for this reason. We are in the world, but, not of the world. But, it very easy to follow the world. I been there done that. But, in time, God worked in my life and I have lost that desire and lost a lot in the process. I hope your brother will make a stand now as many others have, Christian and Non-Christian. But, if he does not, he will suffer consequences from God's love and you must be there for support and encouragement, not a judge. Now read 1 Corinthians 13.
Encourage your brother when he is strong and support him when he is weak!

Drugs for recreational purposes is one of the things that God absolutely despises. You can be saved and still smoke weed, but if you're smoking weed you should question whether or not you really do believe that Jesus rose from the dead. Those who have hope purify themselves. I walked with the Lord for 2 years before I got a little puffed up with pride and started smoking weed for another 2 years which was depression with moments of drug induced happiness. During that time, there was a barrier in my relationship with God. I felt the conviction of the spirit but I didn't have an active relationship with God. I'm filled with joy now that I'm weed free. God is awesome and he will never let his children go. Ask your brother to question whether or not he really believes and is really saved at all.

EDIT: Weed might make some people feel spiritual and religious but God just wants a relationship with you, not just some one time religious/spiritual experience.

I feel first of all prayer is the first thing on the list and second is having a keeping it real conversation of what exactly is the reason he's willing to give up the savior and his connection to him? This is serious and we all mess up and let him know the fact that he's fallen is proof that he needs J.C. who's a lot cooler than the bone-heads leading to a destructive lifestyle. Remind your bro. that wide is the road that lead to destruction even if it feels like an awesome time.

It mightnt be good but its normal.

I was drinking and getting drunk on a weakly basis when i was 14 or 15 along with solvent abuse, fast forward a few years and i smoked hash everyday for about a 5 years,i've also taken LSD from time to time.

You grow out of all this stuff,i havent done anything in years.
Be worried if he begins to show interest in heavier stuff,i've heard about heroin and i know people who had a cocaine problem.
Cocaine and heroine are the ones that he might steal to support.

Be aware in your thinking that while tens of thousands of people die each year from overdosing on booze, it appears to be impossible to overdose on weed.

There a story that some researcher swallowed an entire teaspoonful of pure d9-THC thinking it was sugar, and simply went to sleep for three days - waking without after-effects.

Booze is in many ways the polar opposite of weed: while alcohol makes you both aggressive and less likely to control that aggression, weed tends at worst to make a person paranoid and peaceful. this is from a christian turned atheist point of view. some of the most intellegent people i know are drug users. i think drugs are a vice just like coffee or ciggs. but from a religious standpoint if you truelly love him try to help him resist temptation. also remember that it is perfectly normal for a teen to be curious about drugs and alcohol. we have all been there done that

Well what is wrong is imposing your own moral believes on his.
He's growing up, not every one agrees on your moral positions.
you live life then you die right?

When its all said and done.. and there is no more sun..

what will it do?, if he smoked a joint or two?

I did some weed back when I was a big churchgoer and it made me feel even more religious... Don't buy all the anti-weed rhetoric. It is only illegal because they can make more of a profit on it being illegal.
