Why do cockatiels love human feet so much? Every time I don't have a shoe on, my boy walks up to my foot & starts singing & flirting with my toes. He's always calling it a "pretty bird" , sings, and bows to it. Then after a few minutes, he decides to get freaky with it. But why feet? Why not like your finger or ear or something?

Gosh, thought mine was the only one who liked feet. He likes to rub his head on my foot, he comes over and sits down on my foot, to be raised up into the chair with me. Everyone that comes to visit, he goes right for the feet. He chases my husband's feet, as he walks across the floor. Because he plays "roughhouse" with him, be bites his feet. He sees him take his shoes off, and not matter where he is, heads right for the feet. I was just showing him the birds of You Tube, he was singing along with the birds. But usually pay no attention to other birds, he thinks he is a people! Glad to know that mine is not the only one with the "foot thing".

Haha, my cockatoo LOVES shoes. She does dances for them, she'll give them "gifts" (throw up on them) and she hoards them! She really likes tennis shoes because they're squishy and she can bite it (love bites, not ripping out chunks of shoe) Just give the cockatiel a shoe of his own and he'll leave yours alone. That usually works. This cockatoo is just weird.. whenever I can't find a shoe, I have to go search in the bird room and I usually find a nice little pile of them

feet are around the same size and general silhouette shape of a bird, plus they move around in a boppy sort of style similar to how birds move... so they relate to them. plus, cockatiels are silly...

when your bird starts to get, ahem, "freaky", you might want to distract him with a toy or treat so he doesn't form some sort of unhealthy obsession. this will redirect his attention to more appropriate human/bird behavior during your interaction.
