Rae, Most Christians ARE willing to reason and listen to the thoughts of others. They are even willing to accept that others will NOT share the Christian Beliefs, understanding that everyone is different and SOME Religions speak to peoples hearts in a different manner.

However, SOME folks who CALL themselves Christian have a hard time BEHAVING like Christians should behave. They find it in their hearts to HATE those who are NOT like themselves. These folks read the word of God and USE those very words as weapons against the REST of humanity, a VERY UNCHRISTIAN thing to do, indeed. They FAIL to understand that when THEY condemn OTHERS to Hell, Pass judgement on others, using the Bible as their justification to do so, that THEY are condemning THEMSELVES to that very eternal punishment for themselves. It would be OK for them to go around thiking "I'm "saved"" but the instant they add "And you're NOT" to those thoughts that they have immediately taken on the role of their God and passed a judgement onto someone else. That is what condemns THEM to their OWN Hell. The rest of us are simply trying to GET them to see and understand that and stop their childish behavior. Does that make sense?

I'm open to reasoning, but as two equals, mono a mono. Many times when we try and "reason" together, one side or the other condescendingly tries to "convince" the other person that they are wrong. Then things break down. No one wants to be talked down to.

I'm not just saying this to atheists, but people in general. Talk to me like an equal and not someone who is deluded and I'll happily reason with you in the same fashion.

Cheers!!

Hello,

I have no problem with that. I just noticed in debating people here sometimes they get quite angry and rude walking into that ad hominem type arguments. It is not so much to do with Christian or non Christain, atheist etc but sometimes when you challenge a anyone's intellect or argument they take it as a personal insult and act accordingly.

Maybe in the future Yahoo can get a panel of judges, versed in Ivy League debating type skills and fundementals of logic to moderate and judge who is winner in the end. That would be better for everyone.

Cheers,

Christians, if are truly practicing what the religion is preaching, should be tolerant and accepting of others, letting God to be a supreme judge for all. It is unfortunate that for many complex of the superiority took over basic human reasoning, and hence there are conflicts between some Christian denominations and other religions.

Orthodox Christianity and Jeudaism, are, as far as my learning can tell, are the only two religions that do not encourage "missionary work" and "promotion" of their religion, being accepting of the beliefs of others.

Christians are the most loving and reasonsble people in the world. Jewish controlled Hollywood and TV are constantly presenting Christians as bigots and unreasonable. Don't listen to Jewish propaganda because the religion of Judaism constantly lies about Jesus and Christians. Think about this! If Jews are willing to lie about Jesus the Christ, why wouldn;t they lie about all else.

I try to reason with them but they're so difficult. I always try to see the viewpoints of others and understand them but I have my own views. I believe in evolution and I'm not a conservative (not all Christians are evangelicals) so I try to reason with them but they're too narrow minded.

I can't think of a reason not to reason. God is reasonable, why shouldn't his followers? However, I'm not going to get involved in a futile argument. I'm not Jesus' lawyer, just his witness. Though your sins be as scarlet, He can make you white as snow.

You would have to be reasonable to reason. Believers are working under the heavy burden of delusion in the first case and in the second case, defending such delusion makes them a bit testy.

I try to, but when i do the person says things like this

"They can't they are blinded by fear...fear of their perfect god burning them for ever!"
(from gavin N)

and it just makes it hard to reason with the person.

Thanks for providing the steriotypical ignorant viewpoint gavin, we're all very proud :-|

reason as to believe what they believe? or be friends and understand where they come from? if it's number 2 I do because I was once lost but now am saved. So I understand what it is like to not believe and reject God. But why not listen to me and hear the word of God and be saved from hell? one question for everyone. Someone asked once "If you die and find out that God never existed than what?" well what have I lost?nothing, but What if you die and come to find out it was real? Than you are going to hell because it is already to late. Not saying I don't believe in God but ask yourself that, what are you losing when you believe in God and get saved? feel free to email please, I will pray for you all.
