You should expect around 13 to 14 city with the Hemi MDS and about 17 to 20 MPG HWY. However, expect to take at least 12,500 Miles before the Hemi Motor is broken in and you start to see MPG increases.
Ways to increase your mileage:
1) Add an MDS indicator light to let you know when you are driving on 4 cylinders vs 8 Cylinders.
2) MOPAR or AFE CAI
3) After market free flow exhaust muffler & exhaust
4) Add on a performance chip
5) add on tonneau cover
Yes you can use 87 Octane vs 89 Octane as my 05 Magnum AWD RT recommended I use 89 Octane but I found my Magnum ran better on 87 and got better fuel economy. Also, the new Hemi MDS have anti knock sensors to avoid damage to the motor by using 87 Octane.
If you were worried about fuel economy I would have looked at getting the CTD. With my 04 CTD 4x4 with 35" tires and I get a steady 19MPG city and 26MPG Highway, but that was adding on The edge Juice with Attitude performance chip, Stage 2 AFE CAI, 4 inch turbo back exhaust with diamond eye muffler.

Well, did you just buy one, or are you planning on getting one??? The '07 Dodge Ram truck has the MDS, which shuts off 4 of the 8 cylinders when you're at highway speeds, thus saving you gas. However, you do have the Hemi, which pretty much defeats that purpose when you're driving in the city. I have an '05 Dodge Hemi Quad Cab that I bought brand new. Bone-stock, I was getting 9.9 miles to the gallon. I put in an aftermarket exhaust and cold-air intake, and I am now getting 12.5 mpg. It all depends on how you drive and where you drive. MOPAR RULES!!!

It weighs three tons (high rolling resistance), has a terrible aerodynamic shape (high aero resistance), and uses a thoroughly outdated combustion chamber shape, so I predict the gas mileage will be...BAD.
The hemispherical combustion chamber (which gives the engine its name) is strictly inferior to modern pent-roof combustion chambers.
