Wouldn't that be a reason to try to actually learn about it?

If we lived the idiotic things some of you still spout, we'd be living in the dark age burning witches, selling women like cattle, torturing "infidels" and other horrific things not mentionable on this site.

Don't you understand that we've moved on from superstition?

If you want to believe in your god, go right ahead, but at least be educated enough to understand that a magician is just a person doing tricks and not something evil waiting to suck out your soul through the television screen.

Why did this question come up just now? Well, for many reasons, but the most immediate thing that prompted it is this...

Its just the most uneducated, fear driven, ridiculous thing I've probably seen on here in a while.

preach, I have many other examples, but I'm not going to bother digging through all the posts on this site. It would take hours and isn't worth it when you can do your own search.

JY, but a magicians tricks is NOT the magic the bible is talking about. The magic the bible talks about is using spells and calling forth spirits. How can you not see the difference?

Lady, apparently you don't or you wouldn't be so ridiculous. Because you obviously don't understand it.

dreamdress, thats a load of crap. Your bible says that its not your job to judge others. Either listen to it or don't, but don't play stupid games.

Yes, I have to admit -- that question you linked to is just... Gah!

Where WAS this person when the last fifty years of special effects technology was being created?

I won't take the time and energy to show the "gigantic hole(s)" in your logic and argument, i.e. something gets labeled evil because we don't understand it and then your apologetic re: stage magicians and wizardry.

What is germane is: the 'beast' when he/it is 'revealed' is going to do amazing magic tricks. These phony 'signs and wonders' are going to fool a lot of people into thinking that he/it is a 'god' and a chosen leader of the world. Therefore, as a Christian, it would be stupid of me to A-s-s-u - me that
there is always a difference. It just isn't so !! We americans are suckers for a circus act and for magic. And I've been to david copperfield's show too.

But, beware Christians and don't be fooled by the beast, false prophet or any one else who can pass through glass, levitate or do other tricks. He/she could indeed be 'practicing' and honing the magic for the 'signs and wonders' of the beast.

As the atheist bible says "Think" heh heh

We live in a time when religion and politics are closely linked in the US. I mean it's impossible to completely separate religion from politics, but these times they're particularly close. A certain political party has corrupted religious leaders into conflating religious and political issues for their own self-aggrandizement, and they and political 'pundits' are rabble-rousing Christians to be aggressive and confrontative. Some Christians. Others are still very mellow.

(Some) Christians have been conditioned (that's the nice word for it) to believe that the founders of the US wanted it to be a Christian country, that there never was supposed to be a wall between church and state. They believe they have been victimized, cheated out of their rights by 'liberals' who, if they weren't atheists and communists and subversive and anti-patriotic, would have no values at all.

Also, perhaps coincidentally, we are also in a time when our respect for civility and manners is at a low ebb. This could also be attributed to the bombastic, hyperbolic rhetoric of politicians and ther mouthpieces in the broadcast media.

I am a Christian and wonder the same thing. Many discoveries in Science and Archeology were lead from the Bible.
Heck, I have always believed there is life on other planets and/or moons, Europa being one. Which now NASA is beginning to consider. But, when I mention that I am bombarded by other Christians that not believe this. I just waiting to see what they say when life is confirmed on Europa as I believe it will be. I can hear it now; "The Devil put it there"!

well you are clearly misunderstanding. Just because christians believe in god doesn't mean they would go against everything. Some people are diffrent then others. Maybe we we not supposed to be with this big technolgy. The refridgerator shouldn't have been invented due to radiation and the ozone layer. But i still have one! and i use it. I think you are also pointing out how those christian women wanted to ban harry potter from the library shelves. Im christian and i read harry potter books. I believe that you want us to disbelieve god because you think we are stopping technology. But you simply answered your own question many christians think alot of stuff is eveil because they don't understand it. No one understands many of the things we do.

And don't you mean wizards not magicians. Wizards and wizardry are evil(christian beliefs) and magicians are for magic tricks.

Unfortunately I think that holds true for lots of people not just Christians. if something is scary, different, against the norm, or we just don't understand it.. Its easier just to say its evil and to avoid it rather then to question it or take the time and energy to learn about it. I do believe in God, but I feel like I was given a brain to decide for myself with thought and consideration what is indeed "evil"

I agree with you about this.

I am a Christian and believe in God, Jesus, the whole deal.

I love magic, went to see David Copperfield in person a few years ago, and was fascinated. Too cool!

I think understanding things takes away any fear one might have. You made some great points!

Have a good rest of the weekend.

I agree a lot of times if a person doesn't understand something they think it is evil.I wish people would read up on things they don't understand.I don't know how many times on here I have seen people say Ouija board is just a toy sold in toy stores. If they would look up the history they would see it has been around for hundreds of years.

Back attcha....Don't you understand, that we have moved on from the Old Testament...those things we allowed only to show there is a better way. The better way came when Jesus brought Grace...read the New Testament...this throwing up scriptures to try and show how awful God dealt with those in the Old Testament is not working with us. We know why those things took place...now find out why they no longer apply and read the New Testament.

We judge evil the same way God does. Evil cannot be judged by science,,,there is no way to measure it. You don't have to be a Christian to recognize evil.....Osama Bin Laden....child molesters who bury children alive... Mothers who send their innocent child to be blown up and rejoice because he is dead.......Sadamn Hussien,,,those who would cut off someone's head...we all know it...except those who are evil themselves. They can't see it.

There are many people who call themselves Christians and have missed the whole premise behind what God is saying about good and evil.

God Himself says that man is NOT to decide what is good or evil according to themselves. He told the first people that He alone would decide and they were not to disobey Him and try to determine good and evil for themselves.....This IS the account of Adam and Eve trying to be gods by eating of "The tree of the knowledge of good and evil".
They listened to the devil who told them that it wouldn't hurt them to judge everything and and everyone.

The world is such a hurtful place BECAUSE people judge one another.....as you are doing in your post concerning Christians and God.

But, in the end, God wins.

One of the worst things some Christians take from Christianity is fear of anything that isn't officially approved by their particular denomination. A "you're either for us or against us" attitude does not foster understanding.
