and he hasn't acted quite himself since. It's been almost a month. He's eating fine and hasn't been vomiting or anything. But I can tell something isn't right. Just wondering if its the biospot that did this? Has anyone else run into this before? any ideas?

The package doesnt say anything about ingestion , just if sensitivity occurs, to bathe the cat....but it's been almost a month since I put it on him.....so I don't think a bath would do any good.

NO, it hasn't been a month since he was acting like this...it's been a month since I PUT it on him....so keep your nasty comments to yourself, thank you. It's just been the last week or so.

When I put it on him..i think some ran down the side, and he licked a little..I THINK...he ran when I put him down, and I saw him turn his head towards where it was..I'm not totally sure he got any , just was asking a question as to whether it MIGHT have been that or not.

Oh, and I didn't ge tit off the store shelf, I ordered it online the drsFosterSmith.com. I heard that they were pretty reputable, and figured if they had it, it must be ok to use!

Thank you Patty, I read the box, and its not Permethrin, but Etofenprox, that is in the Bio spot for cats, tho Permethrin is in the BioSpot for dogs. Also an IGR, and (S)-Methoprene. That's 1 of the 1st things I read about, the Permethrin, and how that could kill a cat, because it's meant for dogs.

I went to that site, and my cat isn't experiencing any of those symptoms, tho maybe a little bit more lazy than usual, for him. Tho it's more about the dog, poor thing, and I didn't really see anything pertaining to cats. But thank you for the info!! I tried googling the Etofenprox, but don't understand a word of what it's supposed to be, think I have to be a med school graduate, or some kind of biologist or something, to figure it out!!!

First off, don't use BioSpot or any of the other harsh flea treatments sold off the shelves at pet stores. They're VERY dangerous to our pets.

Secondly, how did this cat get a "lick of" BioSpot if you applied it properly - at the back of the neck where they can't possibly lick it? Like the prior poster said there may be some serious internal problems going on.

Thirdly, it's been a MONTH that you've noticed he isn't acting the same and yet you come on here and post a question instead of going to the vet? Holy #*@()#@. You shouldn't even own pets!

Permethrin is the drug in the Bio Spot flea medication. It is a synthetic and can be toxic, especially to cats, eventhough not all cats react to it, as in your case. But it stays on the market in many OTC flea products.

What it appears has happened, since he didn't have an immediate reaction, is where the drug has been absorbed into his skin and in his bloodstream. This drug works by attacking the nervous system of the insect...but how does it tell the difference between your cat and a fleas nervous system. I have attached a story about someone that had a serious reaction in their dog and has some info for cat owners, too.

Call your vet and let him know what you have told us. I am not sure what the treatment would be. I know if he had reacted immediately, a bath and possibly flushing his system via IV fluids.

Many years ago, I thought I would save money by buying OTC flea meds for my 5 cats....made them all sick immediately. So after I took everyone to the vet to get them well, I still had to fight the fleas! So I just go with the brands the vets sell now.

Hope your kitty is back to his old self soon!

He may be having residual affects from the Bio Spot. Over the counter flea products have been known to cause death much more frequently than those purchased at a Vets office.
MY daughter bought some OTC products and her cat went into seizures. He had to bathed at the Vets office and closely watched. She did not completely recover for several days and seized for almost 48hrs. Her cat came through it but many don't.
Call your Vet on Monday and ask if his lethargy can be contributed to the flea killer. It may be something else.

Please don't use biospot on your cats. We have seen many get sick and most seizure after application. If you need flea control, use Advantage or Frontline, as they are non-toxic to the cat and do not get absorbed into the blood stream like the biospot or Hartz type products. It sounds like your cat is having trouble metabolizing the chemical, and it could cause liver/kidney damage.

over the counter flea products are known to cause seizures and other problems in cats! And they usually don't work!!!! I would suggest you discontinue the Bio Spot and buy a reputable product like Frontline or Advantage from your vet

I don't know a lot about this product, but read the packaging that it came in to check for warnings or pesticides. If it has anything suggesting it could be harmful to your cat if ingested, then take them to the vet.

Biospot should be safe when licked by the cat. Cat products are made with this behavior in mind. How is he acting that's different?

Hi it's possible that your cat is acting that way this long asfter you used that stuff on him. I'm sure if he did get any of it it was just a small amount. Keep a close eye on him and if he gets any worse get him checked out just to make sure he's on. hope this helps!
