Take an ID, as more security measures make it needed in many places.
And as your ID proves that you are not yet 18 take a letter of consent from your parent too.

Paying cash is not the problem, traveling without permission may be.

As long as you have a valid ID and enough cash, you'll be fine. If you're going out of the country, you'll need a passport as well.
