I have already tried Christianity and it doesn't sit well with me. It is too difficult for me to be an atheist. I have an attachment to Buddhism and Shinto, but I still want to research other religions in hopes to perhaps see which one seem the most likely and livable. Please suggest religions that are close to nature types. I would like it if you could also give a brief description. Thank You

You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful in finding a religion/philosophy that is well-suited to you:

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html

It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.

Although my own faith, Wicca, is very much "close to nature", I wouldn't presume to try to sell it to you -- what works for me might very well not work for you at all. The Belief-O-Matic is widely reported as being quite accurate for pointing people in a useful direction.

Good luck on your search.

Hi Alex...i have researched a few religions & philosophies myself & found personally speaking, Islam to portray an ideal way of life..(don't believe all that the media, tells you!)
i am not an authority on the religion but being muslim myself, i have a good understanding on certain issues. I can inform you that the most important aspect in Islam is to have belief in one God & the last messenger (Prophet Muhammed- PBUH). Those who follow Islam should lead peaceful lives themselves & treat God's creation with love and respect.
I have limited knowledge in re: to what Islam's states about Nature & i feel this is important to you, so seek further knowledge in this respect (and other questions you may have). Good luck with your search & the choice you make!!

After many years of soul-searching, I found Islam. It appeals to your intellect, provides guidance on how to live your daily life, and allows you to have a direct relationship with your Creator without intermediaries. It is the pure monotheism that was sent to all of the prophets through the ages, and indeed, Islam teaches that there have been prophets sent to all corners of the world teaching the same message. It is natural because it does not expect you to believe in illogical dogmas or deny your human nature, but to channel your God-given qualities in healthy ways. The Islamic view is that you were born pure, without sin and need no savior other than God.

You may be looking for spirituality more so than one single religion. From what I've seen no single religion has the complete truth - they all have pieces of it, but they all do point to God/Source which is the important thing. I would suggest Native American Spirituality and Taoism as ones to explore. Use your own discernment and keep what resonates with you. You may want to form your own daily or weekly spiritual practice from a blending of different religions. Remember that your connection to God is direct. You don't need anyone to intercede for you.

Below is the website of a quiz about WHAT you prefer to believe in.
At the end it gives you a list of about 20 religions and a percentage of how you fit in each of them.

I thought I was 100% Atheist - it seems I'm not.
I just don't follow any KNOWN religions although Unitarian Universalism seem to fit fairly nicely if I was into organisational stuff.

You are probably seeking the "bai' hia'" faith. It is the path of universal acceptance. It is close to walking with Nature as you speak of. So is Taoism. All paths that follow the way of peace follow the way you are seeking. Several great teachers have left legacy's in their wake. All you must do is understand that they did not live their lives in vain and that the words they spoke were not spoken in vain. Testimonies to Truth are what Teachers gave us and none were delivered more eloquently than those of the great teacher, Jesus. If you will get over the public persona of "christianity" and see what it is He spoke of as Christianity than you will not be irritable at the stubbornness of others.

Well I don't understand why atheism would be so hard. All you need to do is live as you are and be fine with it. If not, how about living as an agnostic and wait until whatever religion you do find that fits your beliefs answers the religious questions that you have. No need to rush things. Live and experience. You will eventually find your beliefs. No need to force things.

you need to decide what you need a 'religion' for. like someone said, religion isn't a car selection. is this a quality of life issue or a direction in death venture? red is red, 3 is 3
all day long. that's another way of saying there's only one truth. various points of view on that truth, but nevertheless...
1 truth, 1 way, 1 life. this is real life, dont treat it so lightly like a buffet item choice. GOD Bless you!!!

You obviously need something, but picking a religion is choosing to close your eyes. The fact that you are willing to consider any of a number of contradictory belief systems suggests that you are unconcerned about truth and just want to find a cozy set of beliefs to curl up with.

Judaism, since you aren't a Jew you only have to adhere to the Seven Universal Laws, and they're so easy a caveman could follow them.
