not a good idea. i am glad that you are trying to teach your brother the respect that everyone should have for firearms, but even at seven hes still too young. get a BB or pellet rifle, then when he is at least 12, take him to get his hunters safety course. this will further his knowledge and respect for guns. then get a .22 single shot. the .22 LR is probably the most affordable and easiest to find ammo in the market today. go with that, that's what i started on.

I would not Suggest buying him anything more than a BB gun and only letting him use it under close adult supervision. When he gets a little older say 10yrs old you might buy him a .22 single shot,
I bought my daughter a Marlin Lil` Buckaroo .22cal single shot at the age of 10 after she had shot BBs for 5 years and learned to respect firearms. She now is 17 and can handle every gun in our collection. She still has her Lil` Buckaroo but her favorite is her Springfield M1A SOCOM II.

If he has no formal weapons training.
First a hunters training course.
Then start with a BB or Pellet rifle.
For they do shoot real Bullets and can be used to train the skills needed to use more powerful fire arm.
You can make mistakes with a BB or Pellet rifle and live to learn from those mistakes.
Where with a more powerful fire arm you may not live to learn.
Start small and there is time to move up from there.

At 7 years old, I would stick with the .22 LR. Best of luck.

Get him a bolt action .22. The brand doesn't matter too much, but it should have decent sights on it.
My grandfather gave me a bolt action .22 when I was 4 and I still have it 39 years later, and plan to keep it.

If you're a good brother you'll get him something more appropriate, like a membership to the ACLU, or at least a cool Che Gueverra T-shirt.

howdy,
at 7 your brother really doesnt need a "real" gun,
I would suggest a BB gun that works with co2 cartriges, he can shoot targets or even small varmints, and the BB doesnt go very far so if he does shoot the wrong way it wont hurt anyone. later take him through a hunter saftey course and buy him a .22 or .17.
hope this helps
