The American flag always goes on the left, as you are looking at the altar or podium.

There is no such thing as a Christian flag because there is no such country as Christian. Christian is a religious term. The American flag refers to the nation known as the United States of America. So the two things are not the same.
If the American flag is flown in the US, with other flags, the US flag is in the centre, and is usually flown on a higher flagstaff or flown higher on the flagpole than the other flags. If the American flag is flown in the US in the context of a United Nations event or an Olympic event, it is either flown with other flags in alphabetical order, or is flown on the last flagpole, as befits the host country.
If the American flag is flown outside the US, it cedes precedence to the flag of the country where it is being flown. That is, it takes secondary place.

When used on a speaker's platform, the flag, if displayed flat, should be displayed above and behind the speaker.

When displayed from a staff in a church or public auditorium, the flag of the United States should be in advance of the audience, in the position of honor at the clergyman's or speaker's right as he faces the audience. Any other flag so displayed should be placed on the left of the clergyman.
