If you edit out the irrelevant parts, you'd have nothing left...just a front and back cover.
Seriously though, its equally deceitful to just not include these things...it's the elephant in your living room that no one wishes to address. By ignoring the parts that you find 'distasteful' or 'irrelevant' you diminsih 'god's word'.

The problem is that the bible, by its own claims, is The Word of GOD! What finite man are we going to hire to be the editor of what God said and what He did not say? Liberal and conservative theologians for years have agreed that no man could do the job.
So...It is either all true and relevant, or NONE of it is true. I will stand with the all crowd and know that the bible is God's word to me for this and any other day we will live in.

Many people have tried to leave out parts that don't suit them, but it is sin to change or delete the words from the Holy Bible. The Holy Bible is the word of God and we are told in the Bible , not to change anything. It is to remain the same from the beginning. The word is Obediance .

We don't edit the Bible. It is what it is. Simple as that. What we have to do, though, is faithfully interpret the message in the idiom of each generation. There is nothing that says "thou shalt have slaves, and shalt treat them most miserably.". It acknowledges that some cultures do have slavery (yes, it's true even today), and gives directions to the believing master and the believing slave as to how te behave in the station one is in. Blessings. /Orthodox

How would you know which parts of the Bible need editing? Wouldn't that imply a knowledge or authority higher than the Bible? In that case, why would you bother with the Bible at all?
Why, indeed?

You gotta love those holy books, regardless of what's in 'em. Folks ease over the the really weird parts and adapt to the strange but doable parts.
No matter how outrageous the bible is.... it is still considered holy to those who believe.
It's wonderful to have a book that relieves us of burdensome reasoning.

Because God said not to change His word
Deuteronomy 4:2Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Proverbs 30:5Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Revelations 22:18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Hebrews 13:8Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

only Lucifer has the desire to change G_D's word, realize who is making you say such things.
Bible is clear, VERY CLEAR, to what happens to those that take or add words to the book, their tree of life is taken, never to return.
Deuteronomy 12:32
Proverbs 30:5-6
Revelation 22:18-19
you are walking on very shallow ground on this topic when it comes to G_D. His book is His very word, His very soul.
