A) Dogs at the shelter being put to sleep humanely ??

B) People who adopt these dogs and either can't or won't provide proper vet care, and allow them to suffer?

B) of course

I think the attitude that it is better to get every dog a home is wrong. One thing is, not everyone should own or have a dog. When I hear people saying "I do not have the money for a vet", I just shake my head. Dogs are a luxury and if you can not afford one then you should not own one. Another thing is not every dog should be adopted out, due to temperament or behavioral problems. I have seen dogs placed through rescue that should have been put to sleep.

I woudl say B) is the worste fate. People who do not care for thier animals or can't afford to take care of their animals in the best way would be worse than putting to sleep humanly.

I don't like A) because many wonderful animals are put to sleep each year because they aren't adopted...it's sad that there arent' enough good poeple in the world to adopt them and give them the good life they deserve.

But, If I had to pick...it would be B). Seeing animals suffer not only bring tears to my eyes, but a terrible feeling inside thinking of how the poor animal is suffering. It's something I can hardly take and would prefer not to even think about. I can think of A), as sad as it is, but it doesn't give me that terrible feeling inside.

I have to say..."Setmefree" has a good point. There are wonderful owners out there that love thier pets so much they can't let them go. When they are nearing death, thier owners will ask thier vets to do anything possible to "save" thier beloved pet. I think during this process, if there is no hope, the animal should be euthanized. But I see many people doing all that they can do because they "love" thier pet so much they can't let them go. If they would stop being so selfish, and realize, this is at the sake of thier pets suffering. They need to put thier own emotions aside, and think of the pet....sometimes the best thing is to make the decision to end thier life so they don't suffer anymore.

Well, when it comes to my dogs, I always think about what would I want. When the vet asks me if I would like my dog to have pain meds, I think, well I would want pain meds, so why wouldn't my dog? So, yes, I want the dang pain meds.
In this case, I would MUCH rather go peacefully than be in control of either heartless, or uneducated people that allow me to suffer either because they don't know better or don't care.
I think B is a significantly worse fate. I think that we as people have so much to answer for when it comes to how animals are treated and there are so many people that are blind to the suffering because "it's just a dog" and they don't think that these wonderful animals feel pain and suffering just like we do.
So in that case, kill me dead before allowing someone like that to be in charge of my care.

B. I can't think of anything worse than an animal that has to suffer hours, days, weeks, and sometimes even years with health problems and pain because someone can't or won't afford a vet. It would be better if the dog was put down before going through something like that!

That's a hard call. I'd lean toward putting them to sleep, humanely, but on the other hand every living thing WANTS to live. If I knew I would eventually get sick, suffer and die, I'm not sure that I'd chose to die quietly, now, to avoid the future.

In the wild, animals get sick and die. There are no veterinarians to treat them...they simply live out their natural lives which often include suffering.

I also work at an emergency animal hospital and see pets that are receiving the BEST care suffer as much as those that are receiving no care at all. In some cases, I think they suffer more because they are treated enough to sustain life, but can not ever become well and pain free. There are patients that I WISH would die because I see how much they suffer despite the fact that their owners have the best intentions and provide them with the best treatment available.

B) The people want to adopt a dog or buy one than don't take care of it. At least the shelter don't let them suffer in pain for days.

Allowing an animal to suffer is definately the worst in my opinion. The problem is overpopulation. If we could keep them from multiplying too quickly, we could (ideally) attain a better balance and not have so many dogs put down because they don't have a good home. There are alot of good dog parents who take exceptional care of their animals, but not enough. Maybe your question will raise some awareness and help people to realize that this is reality. The best solution is to spay and neuter as many as we can.

Have the dog put to sleep humanely is much kinder than letting the dog suffer at the hands of incompetent owners who should never have owned a dog in the first place.

B is definetly the worst of the two.

Well B, these sort animal owner as they call themselves, should be treated the same way for one year and see how they like it !

I dont like A either but with certain dogs which are totally out of any ones control they should put them to sleep & blame the owner for this....
