Yes! I visited there for 3 weeks last March and April and had no problems at all! I had a great time. The Filipino people are friendly. The food is good. There is a lot to do.

Their beaches are some of the most beautiful in SE Asia and in the world.

I hope you have a great time!

Although you are going to the Philippines, Manila is more of a westernized city. They have many things that we have here, including areas that you do not want to go into.

I as well as my brother have been to Manila on two separate occasions. The time I spent in Manila was a lot of fun. I did not feel threatened in any way as i went to places that I had read about and also new places that I discovered along the way. I have stayed at two different hotels, in two different areas of the city, and experienced no problems.

Actually the only problem i did experience was from some, not all of the taxi drivers. The independents would try to charge 150P over what the meter read, or would try to tell you a flat rate for your trip. Do not fall for either. Your best bet is to take a hotel recommended taxi if at all possible.

The only other scam I ran into was people trying to sell old Silver Dollar coins. They were in fact fakes, just walk away and they will usually leave you alone.

A few points of interest might be, The Mall of Asia, the Island of Corrigador, the area called Bay walk, I believe near the American Embassy, and if you are going for some night life, may I suggest a bar called LA Cafe. The Corrigador tour is an all day tour at a cost of roughtly 100USD for one person, or 80USD each for a couple. If you like WWII History it is worth the trip.

Go and have a great time.

I live here. And can compare with other cities as I think I have traveled enough.

Yes, Manila is safe to go to, but be as alert as you would be in other thickly populated cities. Yet I will not go as far as to say it is totally safe. And I would honestly say that it is not as safe as some cities (like Singapore - - - yeah, a country actually - - - but it is so antiseptic and so unexciting).

Manila is probably as safe to a foreigner as Rome would be. My friend was conned 2x in one day in Rome (and he is not an idiot).

There are so many things to do in Manila. If the visitor is the shopper/eating out type, Manila is heaven. Greenbelt 3, for example, is a gourmet's paradise. And the architecture is first-world-lovely. It was rated in an international architecture publication as one of Top 2 "best-designed" commercial buildings.

Eastwood is so alive with bands playing on the streets for customers seated in rows and rows of table settings for al fresco dinner and drinks.

Malate is bohemian and is a natural magnet for the artist-creative type of night owls.

Timog has bars and restaurants catering to all types. And more.

Shopping is great everywhere. The bargains in Divisoria and Baclaran will beat Mongkok and Chatuchak anytime.

For culture buffs, there are great museums (Ayala Museum is a must) and places of interest like the Old Escolta, Intramuros (walled city), Paco Park (a church/cemetery that is venue for weddings and host to sopranos and tenors via shows mounted in this elegant setting).

And when your soul gets weary from the hustle and bustle of Manila, you can unwind in the beaches within 2-3 hours drive, or enjoy mountain air in Tagaytay, just a little over an hour going south.

The best experience in Manila, after all is said and done, is meeting its people. And that is an entire discussion unto itself.

By all means, come to Manila. And you will return.

It's safe to go there definitely. But be prepared to be idolized if you look like a foreigner. Filipinos lovee to eye google at you, especially if your a cutie! There are a lot of locos in Manila. Never go anywhere by yourself. Have a family member or friend with you at all times. Especially if you don't speak Tagalog or bad Tagalog, like me. Go watch Wowowee if you can at ABS CBN. Take a tour there- you will prob run into a few filipino celebs like I did!

It's safe just watch what you do and try not to stand-out to much in the crowd. Better yet have a friend with you from the Philippines.

Yes it's safe to go to Manila, but there are limited tourist attractions. You can go to Intramuros, tour the nice churches and old buildings in Binondo. You can go cheap shopping at Divisoria. Or go to Makati, hang out, wine, dine and shop designer items.

Be careful of your belongings at all times.
