Should I take it off? And if I do take it off how would I go about it?

It must be removed or the bird can continue to bleed. Kwik stop will not help. You must remove it--as stated above, just grab it close to the skin with a plier and pull gently but firmly. It will come out and the bleeding will stop. This is a common injury we see at our practice.

Birds can bleed to death from blood feathers. Try to put cornstarch, flour, or blood-stopping powder on the broken feather right away to stop the bleeding. Make sure the bird is in a quiet isolated place where it wont bump itself and cause blood again. If it continues to break open and bleed, It may be necessary to pull it out. You can do this with one person holding the bird and the other person firmly and quickly (there are nerve endings in the feather so it is very painful for the bird) jerking at the base of the feather with a pair of pliers. If it bleeds after that apply more blood-stopping powder until it stops and keep the bird in a quiet undisturbed place until a new feather has started to grow in.

Blood feathers are very bad and a bird can actuallt bleed out. I can't remember but you ahve to pullt eh feather out and then put eaither corn starch or s store product specifically for this problem to stopt he bleeding adn then afterwards keep your bird warm and calm adn call the vet. A broken blood feather is like a faucet draining the bird of its blood the feather needs to be removed so the bird doesn't bleed out.

o k a broken blood feather is a severe problem for your bird and what you need to do is to get a pair of pliers (grips) take the bird hold the wing firmly and the broken blood feather in the pliers and yank out in the growth direction. Its the only way to go if itds bleeding .

You should remove it and put flour on the spot where the feather used to be. If the bleeding doesn't stop you should call an avian vet.

Just leave it alone. It will clean it up itself, make sure it has water and a bath so it can get clean and the bird will sort it itself. Unless there is heavy blood loss then the wound need cortorising

Baking soda and flour, mix it up at place it on the bleeding part. Next time be sure to have avian septic blood stoping powder on hand. A good first kit for your bird will help in many cases of problems, see your vet for things to buy and place in your kit.

hmmm
i would say dont "take it off" but to leave it alone,
it might look nasty but its really no big deal...
it will die on the inside and fall off or the bird will pull it off
(but it may take some time)
and did it break because of a fight?
if so montor it to make sure nothing out of the ordinary happens
or just an accident?
if so, leave it alone
he\she will be fine
^.^
