Man, this is a tough one. Sounds like your uncle felt helpless about his situation and took the only way that he thought would end his pain. You can probably share with his daughter that he is in no more pain on this earth. I've lost two close friends to this thing. My sympathies to you and your Uncle's family.

Unless you have been in the depths of depression, it is easy to judge someone who has chosen suicide. Their world becomes very limited, and the pain intolerable.
Often this is a biochemical problem, and all the good intentions in the world will not change that.
As for leaving a voicemail, as one is committing the act, that seems pretty hurtful, however, you can't take responsibility for another person's choice.
Whether or not someone actually follows through with the act of suicide is a complicated puzzle. But for the most part, suicidal persons believe that the world will be a better place without them.
I personally think it takes a lot of guts to actually follow through, so I just assume that there has to be a powerful reason.
Rational thinking seems to be absent, because most people who are thinking of those they leave behind, would not rationally make the choice to let them see the end result.
My life work is about helping people before they get to that place. Sometimes that isn't possible.
Hope this helps,
Karen

It is hard to understand why some people kill themselves. Often when you hear their reasons you can only stand there scratching your head. I do not pretend to understand why some do this or why it sometimes runs in families.
Basically, it seems that some people loose their ability to be objective. It is important for everyone to step back from situations and look at it from the outside. Rare, indeed, is the need for suicide. It is the final act of desperation. I stress "final". That means there are probably other options whether we can see them or not. That is why it is so important to seek help.
You don't want to pull the plug until you have tried everything else first. No sense employing a permanent solution to what may be a temporary problem or a problem that can be solved or at least dealt with another way.

I don't think that it's a cowards way out. If someone can't take it anymore and they find that suicide is their only option then that's what they'll do. For his daughter and grandchildren I would try to make sure that they don't fall into their own suicidal depression. Sorry I can't be of more help.

It's heart-breaking when someone feels they don't have any other option, becuase suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, usually one that can and will be solved not that far down the line. But sometimes people get so depressed that they cannot see the solution or any way out of the problems they feel they have. My heart and prayers go out to his family, especially since they had the horror and shock of finding him.

The only person who will ever know the answer to this question is no longer here. My daughters father commited suicide 10 years ago. Even left me a voice mail message right when he was doing it. I can't afford to lose my last piece of sanity fretting why. We just grieve, deal, and try to move on.
Good luck and take care of you!

Cowards!!! You ALWAYS have other options. Everyone lives has bad drama and feels out of control at times. That's just part of this thing we call life. We all as humans need a trustworthy person we can talk to at times and enough faith to know that when things seems at it's worse, there is a lesson to learn from it. When a door closes in our face, there another door opening with our blessings awaiting us.
