I cannot for the life of me understand this logic. Creationists argue that the universe is to complex to have happened by chance. They have a huge problem believing the complexity of our universe could have come about by chance, but they have no problem believing that God, who is way more complex than our universe, could have happened by chance.

actually its the simplicity i think that points to an intelligent design ... theres no reason it should be so orderly and easy for us to understand.

God is simple. God just is and always was. God is eternal, that means eternal in both directions. There isnt really any question left if you accept that God has always been.

Were it really that complicated, would it be the answer that so many civilizations came to over time?

It sounds like youre just making it entirely too complicated, but thats to be expected, some people think in a way that allows for God, some dont-youre not likely to understand it. If you really want to though, make close friends with a very religious person, eventually you'll understand. Sounds like youre an atheist, so you're guaranteed an open minded one which means questions ought to be answered easily enough.
____

As for the universe being simple. There is a reason that everytime scientists think they know everything they end up opening up a whole new can of worms. There was a time that the only question left to science was why metal turned red when it was heated. Then it turned out ether was a load of crap, and we started finding smaller and smaller building blocks, and all kinds of other crazy things happened. Some people say this is God at work. Science isnt simple, we're just approaching another huge shift in understanding.

God did not 'happen' He did not have a beginning and was the uncaused cause. God is not an effect as all other things are

I think the argument you posed about the complexity of the universe might be a straw man not espoused by creationists. I actually never heard that argument ... do you have a reference?

in the real of biology there are complexity arguments such as

1) irreducable complexity as argued by Demski et al
"Darwin's Black Box" Michael Behe

2) information complexity decreasing with each point mutation such as Werner Gitt or Lee Spetner would argue
"in the Beginning was information" by Gitt
"Not by CHance: Spetner

the amusing thing is that they say that its too complex to happen by chance but the universe is actually very orderly and fairly easy for us to understand (when we actually apply our brains to understanding it)... intelligent design is actually the "simple" explaination for people that don't have the ability to understand the world around them.. they choose to bury their heads in the sand than to try and understand their world... why do hurricanes hit? god hates the people living there... why did my son die in a meaningless accident? it was his time according to god... why does the earth revolve around the sun rather than float aimlessly through space (gravity)? god made it that way... its too complex for THEM to understand so they assume that god had to have created it... they assume because they cannot comprehend it, that no one can... this isn't the case, but they have a history of taking the easy answer... and thats the result

consider this comparison... early in the history of humanity people believed that the sun and moon were gods. Why? because they didn't have the ability to understand why they moved across the sky. That was something too complex for them to comprehend. Now that we know that they seem to move across the sky because the earth is rotating on its axis we no longer think they're gods... we know what they are and why the move. This has happened countless times to many civilizations that had bizarre ideas about their worlds, and created gods to explain them. They've all eventually been proven wrong because someone smart enough came along to explain those things away. Unfortunately the currently prominent religions in the world are not based on gods that are so easily explained away... they've been carefully crafted over time to be too ambiguous to even try to explain away...

I'm no religion expert and I don't believe in creationism, but I'm not sure your question is quite right. I don't think creationists particularly believe that God happened by chance. Don't they think that God was just... always there?

circles.
They do not believe God happened by chance.
Of course, you must have no experience in the construction industry, if you did, you would easily see, that by reason of the intelligent design going into construction, and the glaring flaws and mistakes therein, you would not be so cavalier as to say that the complexity of the universe is so easily explained by chance.

yes- way too complex. we haven't even begun to scratch the surface. you might want to check out some of the books written by the brilliant Lisa Randall of Harvard University- she puts an interesting twist on it all.

We don't believe God 'happened', He was, He is and is to come.

And yes when your evolutionary 'proof' doesn't change from year to year and you yourself can create a universe, I might look closer.

However, creationilsm hasn't changed, just the hypothesis of evolution, yearly.

You are chasing your tail dude. God is and always was. He did not "happen" at all. If He wasn't, nothing else would have "happened" or "mattered".
