Our cat is fourteen years old. She is a darling little cat. We love her very much! We just brought home a 3 yrs. old Norwegian Elkhound from a breeder in June. At first the cat and dog ignored each other. Then they declared war!!!! The cat was fine. Minding her own buisness when, WHAM! The dog jumped on the cat! The cat ran as fast as she could away from him but, he caught her. I grabed him and put him in his crate. He has gone after her countless times since and she (the cat) can't defind herself!! I'm afraid he's gonna kill her! PLEASE HELP SAVE MY KITTY AND MY DOG!!!

My cat trys her very best to stay away from the dog! She wouldn't come onto the porch to eat for a day and a half because of my dog. The dog barks and whines whenever he sees the cat and if he gets the chance he trys to chew her up!

I have 2 German Shepherds that I finally "convinced" to leave my 18 year old cat alone.
The way that I did it was to let them in the house around the cat. (My female was REALLY WANTING TO GO AFTER THE CAT) So as long as she behaved, I praised her and told her how good she was.
If she EVEN STARTED TO EYE THE CAT, I would knee her REALLY HARD while she was at my side. I also told her in a VERY FIRM VOICE - LEAVE IT. One day I think I kneed-ed her about 8 or 10 times ( you have to know that she can be very hardheaded and stubborn) all the while telling her LEAVE IT. She finally decided that she would leave the cat alone or get kneed ed in the process!!!!!!!
I was really proud of her today - she saw the cat under the car and left her alone and went into the backyard.
Hope this is of some help.
I know some people will think that I am being cruel - but what about when a rider spurs a horse? Dogs have thick skin and she was in on way harmed!!!!!!!

it may be normal for that to happen but if you had gotten a dog when it was a puppy then it would get used to the cat but what u could do to the dog is grab him by the collar when he tries to do it and try teaching the dog some discipline like if he does it throw him outside for a while till he learns and everytime he does it continue it but its normal for dogs to go after cats.

You have to try to stop your dog and teaching him some commands, like stop, sit, or down. Its best not to leave your dog in a crate because it takes time for them to get along with each other. You might have to consider another breed that gets along with cats and other pets.

Is you dog growling, teeth barred, snapping at the cat. Is you cat declawed. My dog likes to get one of my cats and mock bite him like he would do another dog he is playing with. The cat comes back for more. Does your cat spit, fur stand on end when dog around, slap at dog.

Spray citronella spray by his nose or get a big bottle of bitter Apple spray and don't hesitate to spray it in his mouth when he comes near her.
