The LDS church never discriminated against any race, nor did we ever break any civil rights laws. So, how could anyone say that theh government could take away our tax exempt status?

They could easily do it because the church does not ordain women into their priestshood. The Catholics, too. But I don't see them making any moves along those lines. Or because of our stand on active homosexuals.

I wish those who claim that the government forced us to give blacks the priesthood would either put up or shut up.

I'm still waiting for the exact suits (or at least the plaintiffs) that were brought against the Church (if any)...

BTW- Does anyone know (or care to check) the timeline between the Civil Rights movement (and accompanying legislation) and when the "ban" on blacks receiving the LDS priesthood?

I was under the impression that the whole Civil Rights thing was pretty much done by 1978, when that particular revelation was received.

LDS has every right to tax exemption that every non propfit(but not non prophet) does. Churches are taxed for profit making properties or activities(like raffles, bingos, rented-out properties and businesses) and clergy are taxed on their salaries but non profit buildings like churches and temples and parsonages are not taxed.

Governments should (and by US Const 1st Amendment and similar statutes in many lands must) stay out of of the doctrinal disciplinary practices of religions or philosophical groups. If RCs and EOs and LC-MS and SBCsand LDS and Orthodox Jews and Muslims do not ordain women and openly Gay practitioners and TEC,UU andUCC do, that is none of the state's business.

It most likely has everything to do with political contributions. The irreligious left wing understands that a good deal of GOP money comes from churches. The funny thing is though it's the Democrats who seem to always want to be at the pulpit. Any church that endorses political candidates is in direct violation of the imaginary wall that separates church and state but appears nowhere in the Constitution.

Don't worry it is starting out slow but it will happen to all soon enough. some organizations have a lot of money tied up in them and they have found a way to tax those dollars they will, i believe there are strict guidelines on how the church can make and use their money, don't worry Jehovah's Witnesses ran into the same problem that's why they ask for just a contribution now.

Between the "Mormon" church and the Catholic churches, most of the large businesses in Salt Lake City -- even banks, are owned by these two entities. Christianity is not owning businesses and they should be taxed for all business income.

America puts pressure on LDS for racism and polygamy and presto-chango, Mormon doctrine is reinvented to accommodate the times.

By the way, it wasn't until 1978 that blacks were allowed into Mormon priesthood or any other part of the church order including "salvation" because their dark skin was considered part of the curse of Cain. How's that for racism?

May also be due to the fact that the LDS Church owns a number of for-profit businesses under the umbrella of the Deseret Management Corporation. Properties include: Deseret Morning News, Bonneville International Corporation, Beneficial Financial Group, and so on. Go to www.deseretmanagement.com for more info.

Put up or shut up? Whatever documented evidence you're given, you will deny. So why do you ask for it in the first place?

In my opinion, all churches should loose their tax exempt status...

Were you alive before and during the "revelation" to give blacks the priesthood... I was... and had a temple recommend. I can tell you that it would not have changed without Federal pressure...

The Mormon Chucho is worth roughly 50 Billion dollars for one. Secondly, they use their money to invest into bigger businesses and corporations. Do some research, You'd be surprised how many "non-religious" businesses the Mormon church owns.

some of you must be so stupid because churches are taxed for money they make off of other businesses they own such as banks newspapers insurance and so on they are not taxed on the income the church itself makes with the donations but for the business parts they are
