I baptized as a Catholic when I was like 8 or 9. Now I'm 18 but I baptized into another religion. I would like to know how do you do to remove your name of the list. I don't really mind that my name is there, but I guess if it could cause some misunderstandings, etc.. because I am no longer Catholic, but I still have a lot of respect and love for the Catholic church because I grew up there.

If you are a member of a parish then you can request that your name be removed from the parish member list.

Records of sacraments, like Baptism and Marriage, are considered legal documents and cannot be altered.

You can use a certificate of Baptism instead of a Birth Certificate.

With love in Christ.

You can be any religion you like. The Church where you were baptised keeps records of baptisms in the parish register just as it does with weddings and funerals. As far as the church is concerned, youare a Catholic. What you choose to be is entirely a matter for your own conscience. The church won't excommunicate you but they will leave the door open so you can go back any time you like if you choose to do so. The church will not alter the register even if you were to be excommunicated. It is a record that you were baptised in that church. It happened and nothing will change that.

Excommunication is not done lightly and usually only to heads of State or other important catholics who speak against or fight the Church. Ordinary people don't get excommunicated, they are not important enough for the bother.

Find out where you were baptized. Visit or write giving evidence that you are you and that you have apostazied from Catholicism (such as a copy of your rite of entrance into another religion).
Your name will not be erased or "dropped' but a note of your 'defection' will be put in the baptismal register.

You would need a dispensation later if you ever want to marry a Catholic and the Catholic insists on a Catholic marriage.

I recommend a meeting with a priest during which you can give your reasons for leaving. Maybe he can give you second thoughts since many leave for mistaken reasons.

Have you checked out any Catholic apologetics sites? You may find answers for your questions.

Just go to catholic priest. Don't worry he will be repeat your decision don't be afraid. It seems to me that you are basing your decision out of ignorance with out knowing your catholic faith because you only have been baptized when you were 8 or 9. Don’t base to your decisions on what others say about your faith, go to the source ask questions (Catholic Church). So that you make a better decision, you just live ones and make it the best. A lot of Catholics do leave the church out of ignorance and makes a mistake then later they come back after learning more about the bible. It better to asking right questions and right sources like catholic answers or www.catholic.com.

If you are registered at a parish, you can ask that your name be removed from the list of registered parishioners, but the Catholic Church will not remove your name from her sacramental records. If you wish to defect from the Catholic Church, there is a process for that, and that you have defected will be noted in the records:

By going to a church, speaking to a priest, and request to be ex-communicated.

No big deal. It is much easier than you think.

Bobbo.. you cannot become unbaptized or excommunicated without you knowing it.... they don't just "drop" your name for unattendance.

You can be excommunicated by request. The church will not ignore your request. It is voluntary, and not a public debate, and it does not presume innocence or guilt.

For the record, some other christian churches, will want this paper, before they will "baptize", unless you are dishonest, and just lie to them, and don't tell them you were ever baptized as a Catholic.

You do not need to get your name removed. You will always be a part of the record. If you were not a practicing Catholic and a registered parishioner anywhere, there really isn't any need for you to do anything. If you were registered as a parishioner at a church, you'll need to let them know to take your name of their registry.

Go to the church you were baptized at and tell them that you do not want to be affiliated with them anymore and that you have been baptized at another church or write to them and explain what you want done. They may not care or take you off their records but at least you would know that you tried.

The record of your baptism will always be kept intact. It is a record of fact and the Church is obliged to retain it, just as if you were to change your name legally, you old name would be part of the record. To do otherwise would be to forge records. The Church keeps these records for its own use also.

You can come out with a full page ad in a newspaper and say you are no longer Catholic. That should do th trick.

You can go to this link and ask how.

May the Lord's peace be with you!
