There is a controversy about the meaning of the word "teacup" - some people believe that it's a marketing scam. Many believe that purposeful breeding of small dogs is irresponsible. Some links:http://www.meetgypsy.com/teacup_myth.html

There is no such thing as a teacup cocker spaniel. If you find something like it, it will probably be extremly unhealthy and the tiniest runt of the litter. People refer to "teacups" dogs b/c they are extremly small. But, a cocker spaniel is almost what I would consider a medium sized dog. They usually stand at around 13 inches at the shoulder. So, there is definately no such thing as teacup. You could try finding breeders that own cockers on the smaller side and then the offspring will most likely be smaller. Do not buy from a breeder selling teacups. They are just breeding unhealthy runts to come up with this abnormally small unhealthy size. They are most likely very poorly bred with no regard for the AKC breed standard. If you want a very tiny dog, cockers are not the way to go.

There is no such thing as a Teacup Cocker.
If you truly want a Cocker, that would be technically an American Cocker Spaniel. Although they can range in size from 12 to 25 lbs. Pay attention to size of the parents when searching and you can find one more on the petite side.
Make sure you do your homework, not only on the report but on the search for a puppy. Like many others, the breed is susceptible to certain health issues. It is also popular and the breed has been ravaged by BYB's and puppy mills. Only get one from a reputable breeder or you are asking for trouble.
Cockers are not low maintenance pets in the grooming dept. The benefits by far out weigh that, but you need to know what you are getting into.

There is no such breed as a Teacup Cocker Spaniel! Try searching up either American or English Cocker Spaniel (americans are smaller).
Basicly, you should treat this report like one from school, and include info like:
-The breeds' Origin
-Size and Standards (depending on where you live)
-Tempermant
-Basic Care
-Special Requirements
-Health Issues
You should buy a dog from a reputable breeder, NOT from a pet store. Be sure to look for a puppy with bright eyes, a shiny coat, and one that has lots of energy.
Good Luck!

There is no such thing as a teacup cocker spaniel. If there is a breeder out there claiming that they have tea cup cocker spaniels they are scammers, and you want to stay away from them. Try looking up American Cocker Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels on http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ and http://www.akc.org/index.cfm Both of these sites should give you accurate information on the breeds.

The truth is there is no such thing as a “teacup” dog. Usually breeder cannot sell puppies that are runts therefore they come up with a fancy name for it such as “teacup” to sell it. The truth is you shouldn’t buy dogs that are so called “teacups” they are unhealthy. Teacup dogs are obtained by breeders breeding runts with runt or brother with sister to keep the puppies coming smaller and smaller. If a breeder is only interested in the size of the pups or colour then he is most likely not breeding for the health of the pups.
Sorry to break the news to you, I’m just warning you. Also don’t buy pups from pet stores. Pet shops acquire their puppies from puppy mills even if the may or may not know it.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" in any breed.
Unfortunately there are backyard breeders who are breeding small dogs to smaller dogs to produce what they can claim to be "teacups" so they can attract buyers with the idea that they have something "special". This is an unscrupulous practice because responsible breeders breed to preserve & improve a breed as described
in a written standard. Breeding to emphasize a single characteristic (i.e. smallness of size) compromises the integrity of EVERY OTHER characteristic and the result is an unsound, incorrect dog. These dogs are very fragile and unheathy and a type that no responsible breeder would breed! All, in all the practice of breeding so-called "teacups" or "minis" is a dangerous corruption of the breed .
