Star for you, Maurice.
I believe the Dalai Lama has it right:
"Let us cultivate love and compassion, both of which give true meaning to life. This is the religion I preach, more so than Buddhism itself. It is simple. It’s temple is the heart. It’s teaching is love and compassion. It’s moral values are loving and respecting others, whoever they may be.
"To be kind, honest and have positive thoughts; to forgive those who harm us and treat everyone as a friend; to help those who are suffering and never to consider ourselves superior to anyone else: even if this advice seems rather simplistic, make the effort of seeing whether by following it you can find greater happiness."
Each of us, one by one, behaving with love and compassion toward all others . . . we can get there. It will not happen overnight, but it can happen. We need, on a global basis, to become better educated, more compassionate, and work to eliminate greed and war. Religion can play an important role, but not at gunpoint.

I know it might not seem this way, but the world isn't really in bad shape.
People in many parts of the world live longer, fuller lives than people have in the past. We are more knowledgeable, we have more artistic opportunities, and have more access to more of our world.
There are still problems. But those problems have existed in the past as well. Believe it or not, we live in a great time.

In my ever so humble opinion ... the power of grace, the power of forgiveness and the power of love ~ in stark contrast to the impotence which results from living defeated by the grip of hatred, unwillingness to forgive or envy of others.

look after our children better, fill their lives with positive experiances, train them to fight to swim to climb mountains to understand their potental and respect them selves and others.
never burden them with negitive suggestions about them selves, and others so to teach them to hate and doubt them selves and others.
In a 1932 speech to the German League for Human Rights, Einstein summarized his dismissal of free will in these terms:
I don’t believe in the freedom of the will. Schopenhauer’s saying, that a human can very well do what he wants, but cannot will what he wants, accompanies me in all of life’s circumstances and reconciles me with the actions of humans, even when they are truly distressing. This knowledge of the non-freedom of the will protects me from losing my good humor and taking much too seriously myself and my fellow humans as acting and judging individuals.[]
people are not "free" they suffer and hurt themselves and others because they are programed to.
govrnments do not rehabilitate criminals in most countrys be cause the have to much political power to gain from crime statistics and the victims of our justice systems be come anermals and therefor scapgoats to create more hate and fear in our devieded and conqered societys.

It cannot be fixed. It is sick with sin,you can even see it in nature, all the earth groans in agony looking for that perfect King from heaven to restore this present age,and make it again the garden of God.

Ourselves - it's a matter of choice. Let's not act like a bunch of babies waiting for an imaginary friend to fix everything.

the ability to look past all of our difference and meet on common ground... stop "discussing" with scud missiles and start actually talking... stop shoving one's opinions down others throats (whether that be religion or government or whatever)
most importantly we need to realize we're all in this together... and when you hurt others, you hurt yourself and others around you
