Okay, it's the middle of July, and I've got the stomach flu. How, may I ask, did this happen, considering that flu season doesn't start until like October?

Although everyone refers to vomiting and diarrhea as stomach flu, these problems are usually caused by a gastrointestinal virus (a true "flu" is influenza, a respiratory infection). Rotavirus is the most common culprit in young children; by age 3, almost all kids will have had at least one run-in with this very contagious bug. Stomach-flu symptoms can also be caused by bacteria, parasites, or mild food poisoning.

Maybe you picked up a bacteria that made you ill. Usually the flu is related to a viral illness and it runs its course in colder weather as you mention. But when you pick up harmful bacteria on your hands and somehow transfer that to your mouth, you can easily have symptoms similar to the stomach flu. If other people have the same illness, then you can assume it's a virus or flu. But chances are it was caused by something you touched and not someone. OR it could also have been caused by something you ate. It's hard to tell but I wish you a speedy recovery and if your symptoms worsen over 24 hours or you spike a fever, make sure you get some medical attention. Good luck.

"stomach flu" is a term used to describe many types of gastrointistinal disturbances. In July, you could have eaten some food contaminated with salmonella or other bacteria which multiply more rapidly in the heat. That's why you should take your portion of food, then refridgerate the remaining portion.

flu viruses don't go away just because it's warm. The only reason late fall and early winter are called "the season" is because more people are indoors and in closer contact, but the virus is there all year round, and you can get it if you aren't vigilant about hand washing and keeping your hands away from your face.

Like others said, the virus doesn't go away because of the day of the year.

But there is one other thing: Have you eaten any Castleberry food products recently? Those have been recalled because botulism has been discovered in them. And apparently some retailers aren't removing them from the shelves.
