I don't know if they can, considering that they're actually attatched to the dog's skin

Ticks tend to burrow into the skin, and it's unlikely a tick would jump to another dog if it's been there a while, but it can happen. I actually once had a tick jump from a dog to me.

Ticks need to take a "blood meal" in order to reproduce. They will try and stay on the host or pet, until they get a meal. If they are not taken off they will pop off on their own when they get too swollen up and can no longer stay attached. Be careful removing the ticks because if you pull them off the head will stay in the animals skin. If they are unsuccessful they will go from one pet to another. If they were both in the same area where the one pet got the tick the second pet should be checked as well. They will jump from one person or pet if necessary.

How do you think it crawled on to your dog? yes they crawl from animal to animal. If you find one, pull it out with tweezers, make sure you get the head. If you don't get the head, it can grow another body, Once you have it out, burn it with a lighter or a match, and flush it down the toilet. Cats and all other animals, including you, can get them. Two years ago my husband got Lyme disease, and he had to take antibiotics. If you get Lyme disease and don't go see the doctor, you can get neurological problems. It is very common with small brown ticks. look up what kind of ticks you have in your part of the country. If you have pets, this is one of those things you need to know about. Very important.

Sometimes ticks will not be attached to the dog yet, and if the dogs make contact with each other they can spread. If they are already in the dog, then they will not be spread.

Yes. They have legs and crawl. They will most likely attach to one dog and engorge inself with blood. Then you'll see them falling off and look like raisins. When they aren't engorged they are very mobile and can easily move from dog to dog or human to human. Keep frontline plus on your dogs every month and it will kill fleas and ticks.

Generally not. Adult ticks attach to dogs and fill with blood. Then they detach and go lay eggs or go off to rest for a week or so.

Hmm- Well, where one dog found ticks, there are bound to be more. And ticks do lay eggs, which will hatch into hungry babies and so attach to the other pets- and to people.
