I replaced the factory stereo with an aftermarket one. after doing so, I find out that the keyless entry only works with the factory stereo installed. is there any way to get around this and still keep the aftermarket stereo installed?

For some reason the brilliant car makers at Honda incorporated the keyless entry into the factory radio in the 98 Civic. You must leave the factory radio plugged up and stash it behind the dash. There is a cavity below the radio slot behind the curved panel below the radio. You can gently remove the factory radio face to make hiding the radio easier. Make sure the speaker wires are disconnected from the factory radio and attach them to the aftermarket radio then tap in the power and ground. It is a pain in the a$$ but this is the only way to replace the radio and keep the factory keyless. Good Luck!!!

There's a special wire harness available that allows you to relocate the factory radio and keep it wired into the system for the keyless entry functions, while a new radio is mounted in its place and connects to the speakers. Usually I put the old radio under the passenger front seat.

Here's a link to the harness: http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOHAK1B

If you have a factory alarm as well as a keyless entry, you'll need this harness instead: http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOHAK2B

Thats probly not the case, there are several several wires in the back of a stereo for a car, if they're not properly matched up and reconnected, everythings not going to work properly. Before I did anything, I'd take it out and make sure my wires were correct.
