I don't believe that the theory of evolution is correct. Instead I believe the story of creation in the Bible. What is funny is that non-believers call me a sheep for listening to the Church instead of thinking for myself. The non-believers want me to wake up, start thinking for myself, and then listen to them and believe the way THEY say that I should believe. Explain that to me, all of you out there who don't believe in creationism and think that ALL Christians are stupid, mindless, robots. Instead of toeing the line with the Church, I am supposed to toe the line with the so-called "free-thinking" realists. If anyone questions the validity of the THEORY of evolution, then they are ridiculed, mocked, derided, and laughed at. How does that type of behavior exemplify a open-minded and free-thinking society. If you believe that there is no God and that evolution explains life on this planet, then you have made an assumption just as I have. I assume there is a God. You assume there isn't.

NONE of us have any facts to back up anything!!!

Some of you may assume that I have dismissed evolution "out of hand" in favor of belief in the biblical account. This is not the case. I may not have a college level science education, but I am not ignorant of the basic understanding of the theory of evolution. I have given much thought and study to the issue, yet if I say that I still don't believe it, I am accused by some of being unintelligent or gullible. This is what I want someone to explain to me. In your opinion, is there any length to which I can go to satisfy you that I am not a robot, yet still believe in creationism? It appears that many of you simply write off all creationists as crazies, fools, or stupid. It seems as if it is pass or fail with you. I either believe your way or I am dumb. Why?

Comparative anatomy does not prove speciation as the first poster suggested.

You are quite observant. Creationists do not dispute the hard data of science although they do dare to question some scientists interpretation of the data. Not only do evolutionists refuse to let us think for ourselves they generally refuse to think for themselves. You will find that they not only have not read the creationist authors they ridicule they refuse to. They say they will not read them because they already know creationist writings are wrong. How do they know this? Because someone else told them so and they refuse to question the authority of those who have told them what to believe! Everyone is entitled to their opinion but open mindedness and intellectual integrity demand that one research both sides of an argument before pontificating on one side. To do otherwise is to be mindless, cult-like followers of an authority that does your thinking for you. While I have yet to meet a creationist that has not done primary source research in evolutionism, I have yet to meet an evolutionist that has done primary source research in creationism. It is odd that we should be ridiculed for thinking for ourselves while they submit their minds to authorities who tell them what to think.

you can tell yourself that there's equal evidentiary support for creation vs. evolution if it makes you more comfortable. i only object when you try to tell other people that, because i don't think it's true. personally i don't think ridicule mockery and derision are appropriate responses to skepticism, not in the first instance.

on the other hand you're correct that evolution doesn't completely explain life on earth. seems to do a pretty good job with the 'origin of species' though.

i don't assume there is no god. i assume that if there was a god it would leave evidence, and apparently it hasn't. i assume that natural mechanisms explain life - that's not the same as evolution, you know. i wouldn't say for sure that all such mechanisms have been discovered at this time, either. i just don't feel the need to call any of them "god".

"It seems as if it is pass or fail with you. I either believe your way or I am dumb."

not at all - so far you have talked about vague generalities only, and a lot about how realist bullies have hurt your feelings. so what's the biggest specific scientific problem (i.e. matching theory with observations) you see with evolution? i actually do want to know.

I have never told anyone they must think like me. Do I like that some choose to bind themselves to ancient scientific ideas simply because it is convenient? No. But, in the end, I don't really care if you choose to ignore the evidence.

And evidence it is. The Theory of Evolution is a "scientific theory", accepted by the leading biologists of the world, not just some crazy scientist's random hypothesis.

Well, it isn't just Christians because I am a Muslim and I don't believe in evolution either. Actually Christians, Jews, and Muslims are similar in our beliefs and are both against the theory. They say we need to wake up, but when the three most followed religions in the world all have similar origins and believe this, it seems pretty logical that they are right. Plus, we did NOT evolve from primates to humans. That is wacky!

The difference is you can't prove that a so called "God" exists. You can see evolution everyday. They have fossil records showing how different species evolved. For example fish that lived so deep in the water where there is no light eventually evolved to the point where they had no eyes because they no longer have the use for them but their other senses increased. Yes i do believe that I am a free thinker because my parents tried to beat it in my head that i would goto hell unless i believed. Eventually as i learned more i decieded wow they were brainwashing me. Thats how religion keeps staying around because people get brainwashed and feel like if they don't follow it they will have terrible consequences in death. If you could just sit there and think about it; you would realize how ridiculous religion is and i truely believe that as we get smarter as a species eventually just like our appendix and pinky toe our beliefs in religion will slowly fade away.

I don't believe evolution is entirely correct, but I believe that creationism is so flawed and unexplained that it cannot be correct in any way. I do not believe that just because you're not a Christian you have to follow evolution, perhaps there are things that have to be researched by those that are qualified, and through time we'll have the answers. There are voids of things we don't know, and don't know for sure, that doesn't make us lost, just uninformed at the moment. Hundreds of years ago we thought the earth was a flat plain. Just now we're discovering deep sea life that can thrive on 400 degree temperatures. This was not believed to be fact before. Many questions, many answers through time. But I don't believe that god is an explanation except for those who need something to hold on to to make them feel better about life. I've made mistakes, I own up to them.

Free thinking IS thinking for yourself, don't forget that many realists are just as bad as Christians when it comes to recruiting the masses. Thinking for myself has gotten me more success in so many points in my life instead of listening to everybody else.

--------

It seems with the addition of your question you are only pointing fingers and ridiculing us as much as we ridicule you. Is that what your god wants you to do?

Oh, you're right! You shouldn't do any "free-thinking". But you are being disingenuous. The only time anyone says anything nasty or unkind about Christians, it is because that Christian has made nasty or unkind remarks, too. And, once again, one can believe in a higher power and also believe in evolution. They are not mutually exclusive. There are religions that have no problem with evolution, didn't you know that?

Oh, and to smana: Jews have no problem with evolution. Do not speak for others when they can speak for themselves.

No, don't listen to me. I am not a biologist. Study biology on your own and see what you learn. I wanted to learn about it, so I read up on it. I do not take other people's word for it, and neither should you. You should, however, read a little about the theory (something written by a biologist for biologist) before you dismiss it out of hand.

EDIT

No one is asking you to think the way we think, however, I would suggest that all your "study" of evolution was done by reading books with a religious bias. The fact of the matter is, no one who understand the underlying principles of biology would suggest that evolution wasn't a major contributor to the development of life on this planet.

You don't need college level biology to understand that.

It is free thinking as the evidence and research is there plainly for everyone to see. Here is a bit to help you:

Theobald, Douglas L. "29+ Evidences for Macroevolution: The Scientific Case for Common Descent." The Talk.Origins Archive. Vers. 2.83. 2004. 12 Jan, 2004

Edit: John the Baptist - WTF do you think macroevolution is? Macroevolution is precicely common descent i.e. all organisms today coming from a single ancestor some time in the long distant past. If you accept that, then I have no argument with you, but there are plenty who cannot accept it.

The reason it is not happening in a lab is because the entire process takes somewhere in the region of 2,000,000,000 years.
