AUP is an audacity project file. not an audio file. audacity is capable of doing multi-tracks. aup is the equivalent of the windows movie make project. you can open it with the software but its not a movie. you have to export the music as a wav or mp3. click file>export as wav. or if you want mp3 you need to get the lame 3.96.1 encoder
http://www.webhostxpress.net/~mitiok/lame-3.96.1.zip

extract that to a folder here you wont forget it. open audacity, open the audio project, click on edit>preferences>file formats>find library>open the lame_enc.dll file that you just extracted. to the left of the find library button is a drop down menu of the available bit rates for your mp3. the lower the number the worse the quality but the less space it uses. 128 is a good compromise of space and quality where 320 is "cd quality". click ok.

In audacity save as an MP3 or WAV file and import the WAV or MP3 file into Windows Movie Maker.

In Movie Maker:
File > Import into collections > Choose your audio file
or
Movei Tasks > "1. Capture Video" > Import Audio or Music" >Choose your audio file

To save as an MP3 in Audacity you will need to install the LAME encoder.
