Personally, I think it was only to take advantage of Terry's past championship. Could it be that Waltrip was on the verge of losing NAPA??

Yeah I agree, It was to take advantage of the past championship to make sure the #55 Toyota got in the race.
As far as losing NAPA they've said they're in it for the long haul. We'll see.
I was watching a program today about Michael & his shop.
I can't remember if it was him or the crew chief??? that said they were farther behind than they thought they would be due to the fact they had to start from scratch..building the regular cars and the COT for all of they're teams. That it was tougher than they thought it was going to be. (not the exact words but the same meaning.)
I personally have always liked Michael & D.W.
I wish Michael had stayed with CHEVY (if the truth be known..he probably does too!)

Just my humble 'female' opinion!

Well, David B,
I too, being a female NASCAR fan... I am glad to see Mikey is using his business sense to put Terry in the car...

I feel he should have done it earlier in the season, so he could have been in the Top 35 already.

I'd hate to think Napa would leave him... the commercials are great! (Especially now with Dale Jarrett... (I still like DJ... just don't follow him like I used to because he went to Toyota & is probably going to retire soon.)

I really think if Mikey had not been docked 100 points at Daytona, he'd be doing much better right now. I think that really hurt his self esteem.

I enjoy watching him race, because he's one of the rare ones (like Mark Martin) who will race "clean". Yes, he's had his moments... but it's rare.

I remember that MWR hired him to compete in the two road course races this season and then this week he is driving at INDY. The Garuanteed starting postion is the main reason I think. As far as NAPA goes I don't think he would loose them as they have been very open from what I've read online about being in it for the long haul. I live here in INDY and I know they have a Huge distrabution center out on the westside and my thinking is he knew they were having a big Hospitality Tent and wanted to make sure that car was in the show. He did the same thing one race last year buying his way into a race when NAPA had at big presence at the race. I'm not 100% on this but just a thought.

Said it when it was announced, arent past championship provisionals cool.Although I'm hoping Texas Terry has a good race.It seems Mikey is waving a white flag.Dont know if NAPA is making waves for Waltrip I really think he does have some "bank" built up with them,he has represented them very well.Until Daytona this year, but he'll bounce back next year,,,,,,,,,maybe.

Yeah, I agree it was for the points to get in the race. But I don't think Mikey is gonna lose NAPA yet. Good or bad, in the race or not, Napa still gets their name out there cos they talk about him when he goes home. I just don't think they'll bail on him now. Besides, doesn't having the car in the race help him get owner points for next year? I don't fully understand the owner points thing vs. past championships. I'm just guessing on that. Sorry. I do hope Terry does well. I always liked him, it's just unfortunate this has to be a Toyota!

MW is a has been and always was a has been. The only time MW had a decent season was when he was with DEI.

His efforts to become a successful car owner doesn't look to promising.

The provisinal was defintely it. If the car couldn't get in on time Terry had something they could fall back on. Mikeys team all hs teams need points and thi is one way to it. Just like DEI getting the points for the 15 car from the merger with GINN.

You are 100% right - it was to get the car in the race with the past champions provisional. This is one of the top NASCAR events of the year so I am sure that he is willing to do anything to get his car in the race!

championship provisional and I'm sure that Napa was pressuring him to have their car in the Brickyard 400 field
