It's about quality not quantity. Don't worry about it. Just do the best you can to represent your religon. If it wasn't for people like you, more people would still think that muslims are terrorists.
I just read some of the ignorant answers below me. I am sorry you have to go through this. Realize that there will always be ignorance. People look at statistics for the terrorist attacks. They don't look at the religon of the gangsters on the southside of Chicago killing each other. In the southside, there's a church on every block. What about Mexico? If that place was so great why are the illegals coming up here? And it's primarily catholic. Yet no one bashes the catholics. I see Catholics making fun of gay people because "it's their religon". I see gay people being oppressed, mugged, and hurt. In the medievil era Christians were the terrorists. Look at the pagans complaining about how Christians make fun of them. You are not alone. I am sorry that you have to deal with this.

I'm a Muslim but I'm sorry to say that I had to agree with a few Answerers here in their contentions that we the claimant to be moderate Muslims were not as vocal against the atrocities of the OBL and Co., as we are hysterical about the slightest form of insult meted out by non-believers on us.
It is not that I would not condemn these so called promoters of 'freedom of speech' who helped Rushdie events to flare up so much and also the Danish Cartoon events to multiply unnecessarily, even if we assume that burning of properties and hurling stones to protest the cartoon thing was too extreme actions in our religious beliefs. Where were our brethrens when such destructions and mayhems were perpetrated by the extremist followers of our beloved religion?
We need to be rational in this 21st century at least for the sake of our Ummah and our next generation to live with honor and dignity. Don't make our children's future uncertain by holding grudge against people who do not want to recognize Islam as a religion of peace.
The OBL type Muslims are reinforcing the belief even among the moderate Muslims that Islam propagates retaliation on every drop of the hat, which is furthest from the truth. The religious fanatics who oppose Muslims are taking the chance to overtly and covertly attacking Islam and making their points stand out by citing the misguided terrorists’ action as those conforming to the teachings of Islam.
Hope the educated Muslims would take the lead and see to it that emotions take a back seat when we are struggling hard for the physical survival of millions of underprivileged Muslims dying out of hunger and suffering from diseases due to lack of money to attend their basic needs. Don’t tell me that these sufferers would get reward in the next world; it is akin to drugging these unfortunate people so that they forget their misery. We want real harmony among the people of the world irrespective of their beliefs or non-belief in their personal life, Amen!

asalamu alaykum,
I have read some of the recent responses, it is amazing how deeply hate for others and there differences truly are. Yes we are a minority in the US, however according to time magazine, we are also the fastest growing religion in the world. Praise be to God. I would just like to say anyone who watches CNN or other news stations should be aware that the Islamic community for the most part con-deems these acts of violence. There have been many public displays, from our mosques, but we don't get the coverage for some reason. Or perhaps people are comfortable in there hate, they don't want to see what may clearly be right in front of them. We are good people, loving caring, kind people. We believe in one God! We are many colors from many backgrounds, I wonder why that is? I know of the hate. I have seen it first hand. I am a white woman, I get the stares, some of you try to hide it. What it really comes down to is that We may be persecuted for our beliefs now, but rewarded in the end! Wish people could see the truth, but the Vail of hatred and ignorance is thick. Just remember to be strong in your faith, pray. God will guide you, though the trials may be many."

EDIT:
(((sonfai81))) If your house is made of glass do not throw stones.
(((Millie))) I do not see you protesting state terrorism, killing our women and children, or is bombing people with planes civilized
Let us not mention the wars Christians and Jews cause under the name of God in the past hundred years. Funny how the Germans built a wall around the Jews now they are building walls around the Palestinians, then they say God gave them the land, and when 4000 years ago, i wonder at some peoples logic and ignorance or do you like to pretend you are retarded.
Edit:
Lets not forget God told Bush to attack Iraq, first it was because of WMD now he says they are the ones that attacked us on 911, spin it the way you want truth will prevail

Fact: MOST terrorists are Muslims from the middle east.
Fact: A lot of those terrorists pose as productive citizens in other countries (including the U.S.) only to plot and carry out terrorist attacks. It is sad that any innocent people should have to pay for those devil's actions, but that is the reason your race is looked upon with contempt, fear and suspicion. Unfair? Yes. But blame the terrorists, not us. It's just human nature.

i don't know personally about the moderate Muslims experience but i am sure that they have had to put up with a lot lately.
i can only speak for myself on this one and my great confusion lies in the fact that we see the outrage and protest of the extremist on a daily bases. i would like to see the outrage and protest by the moderate Muslim against the terrorist, who in fact are killing more innocent Muslim than an other ethnicity.
i am really anxious to hear your thoughts on my concerns as i want to learn not judge.

A small percentage of Muslims have tarnished the religion on a grand scale.
There is yet to be a spokesperson of prominence to decry the stereotypes of your religion.
ONE POINT:
Traditions are made to be amended, and with many cases - particularly Islam - dismissed entirely.

There are three kinds of people in your case: victims, perpetrators, bystanders. Which one are you. You are not victims. You are not underrepresented. No one is interfering with your speech. Yet where are the cries from you people against those maniacs. Here in America, the many have a voice. That's what democracy is. Where terrorists rein, the many cower and whimper and hide. I personally will continue to paint you all with the same brush until such time as I see the masses stand up and destroy the fanatics.

The 1400 year history of Islam is violent and bloody and shows it's set on conquest. A look at the modern world shows all religious wars have Muslims on one side often, often on both. That all of the major terrorist events for years have been perpetrated by Muslims. Eventually you have to look at the pattern and think to yourself, maybe it's not as peaceful as we'd like to believe.
