Why not try to eat a balanced meal and smaller portions.... isn't that easier than a liquid diet??

Liquid diets are not a healthy option and only work for a short time. If your food is not nutritionally balanced, it can wreck havoc on your body's system (which often can take a long, long time to recover). Nearly all the nutritionists I know would vote against doing this unless you have a medical reason to do so. People in hospitals have no choice when they are placed on liquid diets, but they are monitored constantly and are given the right nutritional balance.

If you insist on this diet however, I recommend you cook your food as you would normally, then blend it in your blender (adding water or stock or milk... something liquid anyway) until it is totally pureed. But this would be totally ugly to look at and probably not that great a taste. And make sure you are medically monitored.

Don't drink alcohol will you are on this diet as it will affect you almost as soon as you take a sip and they are high in calories. Also, if you are going to drink sodas, make sure that they are the low calorie ones - you wouldn't want to waste all your efforts!

If you want to, buy the meal replacement shakes - at least they are more nutritionally balanced than other methods. But they are meant to replace or two meals a day and not to forgot solid food totally.

Were you prescribed an all-liquid diet? If not, I would recommend only doing this for a short period of time. Although there are formulas (such as Ensure) which have a complete nutrient profile, the enjoyment of eating is completely lost. Most patients I see as a dietitian can't wait to get off of their liquid diets when given the chance. Not to mention, Ensure can get pretty expensive if you were to drink enough to meet your nutritional needs.

But if you insist on this, I would recommend purchasing a food processor and using this to puree soups and meats. The food may look unappetizing, but at least you get some variety.

I do not recommend it. You should look at all the pros and cons before you decide to do anything like that, also consult your physician. Here are some pros and cons......

This is a quick weight loss method that understandably is not without its hazards, and medical supervision while using such a diet is strongly recommended.
Fasting and very low calorie diets, such as liquid diets, are unhealthy and dangerous ways to lose weight. Along with fat and water, valuable muscle tissue is lost while fasting and this slows down metabolism. Fasting and very low calorie diets that are not medically supervised do not supplement the body's nutrient requirements to function properly.

Fasting and liquid diets may promote rapid weight loss, but not permanent fat loss. They are associated with medical problems including sensitivity to cold, brittle nails, fatigue, diarrhea or constipation, and heart problems. Weight loss by means of liquid diets can cause gallbladder problems. Sudden death may occur with very low calorie liquid diets or total fasting.

Advertisements using celebrities to promote meal replacement drinks have been widely used in the past few years. Today, however, such products are losing popularity. This is due to the fact that permanent fat loss does not occur unless the person adopts appropriate habits of diet and exercise into their lifestyle.

Medically supervised fasting or liquid diets contain high quality protein and carbohydrates. They are supplemented with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. With careful supervision, weight loss can be accomplished safely. Such programs require careful medical screening and they are usually very expensive, costing thousands of dollars.

Diet clinics may offer food plans of 1000 to 1500 calories per day. Some require you to purchase specially packaged meals available only through the company. These programs provide variable amounts of exercise and behavior modification counseling that are needed to maintain weight loss.

Remember, permanent fat loss is achieved by following a sound plan that includes exercise, behavior changes, and a nutritious diet.

NEVER do this! You are foolish if you do. It is not only dangerous, but if you are successful in losing the weight without getting sick, you will quickly gain the weight back.
