I used to have a waterbed and loved it. It was so nice to jump in a nice warm bed in the middle of winter. And a cool bed during the hot summer months. I also had the semi wave control, so it didn't slosh around much.

There was a time when they were wildly popular, something about conforming to your body and giving the ultimate comfort. Except they never seemed to fill right and if they got a slash from anything including your pets nails, you had a flood. They are extremely heavy when filled so the flooring needs to be secure or joisted to handle it. Then they made water bed mattesses which seemed to offer a better solution but then were more cumbersome to fill. Don't know why they still sell them but I can't say I've seen them anywhere for quite some time. Better to buy a sleep number bed and easier to move.

some people consider them more comfortable than a standard bed. it is a matter of personal preference. Water beds have been around since the 60's and were considered a cool luxury for the party crowd, and the social climbers.

I had a waterbed for 23 years and I loved it. Yes it was warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I had pets and kids jumping and rolling all over it and never had a leak. We felt like we were in a time warp however and gave it up.
