That is the very foundation of the conflict !!

Islam honors both sons.

Christians and Jews only honor the second son.

Abraham slept with Hagar because he didn't trust in G-d. While that doesn't mean that Ishmael is forgotten or banished, that also doesn't mean that he is the chosen of G-d.

G-d chose certain people to lead over the centuries. He had a plan laid out. Ishmael was the result of trying to do things the human way, instead of G-d's way.

Ishmael was convienent for Islam because it provided another way to stick in another savior. It was a way for their prophet to claim that he was ordained by G-d because lineage. And then claim that the bible is corrupt, because it does not mention this great lineage.

There is actually a lot more to the conflict - besides the fact that the radical Muslims are trying to kill Jews and Christians the world over. And that Muslims occupying Palestine are falsely claiming that the land belongs to them. There is no such thing as a Palestinian - these people are refugees from Egypt, Iraq, Iran etc. You also have the fact that Muslims claim that the bible is corrupt, and that there prophet - who never gave a prophecy, was the last great prophet.

You get the picture - there is a lot more then just Ishmael at stake here.

Well said! I'm in complete agreement of this.

From what I understand, Judaism and Christianity regard Ishmael as Abraham's illegitimate son by Hagar. That's very puzzling, since Genesis 16:3 acknowledges Hagar as a wife of Abraham. It's beyond comprehension how a man can have an illegitimate wife and a child out of wedlock! Very strange, indeed!

If people refuse to believe and accept Hagar as a wife of Abraham--even if Genesis confirms that--that's not the problem of Muslims.

No, the Bible tells all about Hagar and her son Ishmael. It tells how her son shall be the father of many kingdoms. The difference is Jews and Muslims do not except Christ as the Savior. simple

While I can't speak for Protestants, Catholics DO honor Ishmael as Abraham's son.

Ishmael sold his Birth right for a bowl of soup;He didn"t think much of it;Same today Gentiles are selling out for the right price;Back to Ishamel He was given a blessing 12 princes would come from Him;also He would always be looking for
a fight; His decendants are setting on the wealth of this planet

Isaac was the intended son that GOD promised to Abraham and Sarah. Ishmael was NOT the intended son of the promise of GOD. Isaac was a "miracle" child, while Ishmael was NOT.

GOD bless

Everyone knows he was the son of Abraham, no one is denying that. We just don't see the importance today.
For Isaac or Ishmael as being his sons. I guess that is only important to Abraham.
But the lineage to Jesus was important in recognizeing the messiah when he came and he was to come through Isaac's lineage. Now that we know Jesus is the messiah that lineage is unimportant.

There is no such thing as a Judeo-Xtian. It is incredibly offensive to call them the same when they are not.

Secondly, Judaism honors both sons. Our history is based off the second son, however, so he is mentioned more in our scripture.

Gen 17:19-21 says what Gods will is in this matter. No one elses opinion matters. Read it and see what God Almighty says. Ishmael is promised many things in these verses but God clearly states that His covenant is with Isaac. God Bless You...Peace.
