First of all, I really feel for you. Something very similar happened to my family. My father walked out because of an affair and left my mother with three children. She is a strong Christian woman, and always believed divorce was wrong too.
But if a marriage is bad, then it's bad. If your husband had an affair, it is in no way YOUR FAULT. You did nothing wrong, so don't let ANYONE tell you that you are sinning if/when you get a divorce.
My parents were separated for several years, and then got a divorce. My mom has gone through some tough times, but she is the strongest woman I know and her faith in God never wavered. I believe that's what helped her rise above all the other problems that went along with the divorce.
Stay strong and keep your children's best interests in mind. I will keep you in my prayers, this is such an awful thing you are going through. ((Love and hugs))

I can tell you the Catholic point of view - if love did not exist at the time of marriage then the marriage was never approved of in the eyes of G-d. Love and commitment have to be part of marriage.
Since your husband has commitment adultary and left you - then you are no longer bound to the marriage. Many would say it was not a valid marriage to begin with. That is not anything negative to you, but to your husband's behavior.
Divorce itself is a sin when it is persued because people want the easy way out. When the marriage is valid but the follow their lusts.
I am not a Christian - my husband is and I am a former Catholic. I can tell you that from a Jewish point of view you are not bound to the husband if he walks out, has an affair or is unable to satisfy you sexually. The marriage is nulled.

God says it's okay to divorce under the circumstances of adultery. An affair falls under that category, so if you truly feel you can't reconcile with your husband then I see no reason why you can't get a divorce. I'm sorry things didn't work out though I pray you are able to find love again.
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife (or her husband), except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman (or woman) commits adultery."
~Matthew 19:9 (New International Version)~

You will probably have to deal with divorce if only just to get the support you need for your kids. It's possible though to lay aside the marriage in your mind without making it legal and official. But we are also asked to respect man's laws. I'm sorry for your situation. I know you and your family will overcome and prosper in Jesus' name.

Forgive him and release him to God's care, so that God alone could deal with his inquity. He will reap what he sows. The divine consequences of his infidelity and violation of the marriage covenant are inescapable, unless he surrenders, repents, and submits to God's authority. His adultery is not a personal issue with you, it is really an self-will, rebellion issue against God. Stay strong, pray for God's intercession, and release your husband to the care and discipline of God. God Bless You!

You've already received some great advice concerning 'divorce as sin'.
Now... pray, fast and seek the counsel at your Church.
Also, at this time, it's crucial that you pay attention to your children and be careful the words you speak in front of them.
God bless you.
