Do Christians object to science fiction stories?
They are obviously not true and may even impinge on your beliefs?

No, of course not.
I like the Sci-Fi channel, the Harry Potter series, etc.
Christainity is not like that.
What some object to is that it is not alway good for children... and that it glorifies the occult, witchcraft, etc

I can't speak for every Christian out there, like David D said there are vast numbers of Christians with a widespread array of beliefs, but personally I have nothing against science fiction stories. I have nothing against fiction stories in general. The word fiction means the story isn't real, it isn't fact, but that doesn't mean the story is irrelevant, pointless, or not entertaining. Some of the most important lessons are taught in fiction stories, some of which are science fiction based.

Nope. Well, maybe some do, but most Christians I know don't object to it. In fact, I know many Christians (myself included) who is a huge fan of the Harry Potter series... and that's a series about witches and wizards.

My sister is really into science fiction (fantasy too) and reads whatever Robert E. Heinlein books she can get her hands on.

The important thing to remember is that these books are FICTION. They're not supposed to be real.
And if we were to read only books that agreed 100% with our beliefs, we'd have a very narrow selection indeed.

Science fiction portrays a different future contrary to the future that God has promised Christians. So from a Christian context, science fiction - or any fiction for that matter - would be a contradiction in terms.

Some do, some don't. Vast numbers of people count themselves as Christians and hold massively differing beliefs. Some believe the Bible contains literal truth, others don't (accepting, for instance, that Earth is more then a few thousand years old)

I am a Christian and I don't object to science fiction stories. They aren't true anyways so I don't believe in them. I like them because they keep me entertained.

Good question..although the book by C.S. Lewis; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is purported to have strong Christian overtones. C.S. Lewis was a known devout Christian. In my opinion most of these stories are a "good vs evil" ...isn't that what religion is basically about?
I'm not sure if I'm a Christian myself..still discovering..searching..but I love a good sci-fi, fantastic magical story!

No objection. You answered your own question...they're obviously not true, they're for entertainment purposes. Besides, science and religion can and do coexist. There was recently a very good article in Newsweek about it.

I find them highly entertaining, They do not threaten my belief in any form or fashion, star gate, star trek, star wars etc depict a present or future with no "god". I know this is not the case and indeed is Sci-fi.Entertainment on the order of bugs bunny or huckleberry hound.

Philip K Dick was one of the very best Sci-Fi writers going! The early work of Orson Scott Card is very fine. This Christian enjoys sci-fi.
