The minute anybody in your church says never to question anything in the bible or the church's teachings, leave quick and never look back. At that point they are no longer a church, but have become a cult.

I was raised Roman Catholic and the adults in my family and the priests in my church always encouraged us to read and question both the bible and the Church's traditional teachings.

I might not always like the answers I got, but I knew I was free to ask. I don't always agree with the answers I get, but I know I can live in the Church and be a Christian anyway.

I have loved questioning the bible all my life and it has been nothing but a wonderful experience to me: you don't always get answers, though. Sometimes you get more questions and God gave me a brain to figure stuff out with.

Between what my brain figures out and the guidance of the Church, I like the spiritual journey it's taken me on.

But without the ability to question, churches become prisons and preachers become demagogs.

In spite of the rudeness of the way you present your question. Only certain churches teach this way. They are considered by other Christian churches as cultic. If you came to a bible study at my church it would seem more like a devar than a Bible study. Two weeks ago we argued the importance of just a few words in one verse because we thought how they wetre interpretted was important to what the over all meaning was and to how it affected how we should be. So I am not aware of what your church teaches but this is how it is at an evangelical /fundamentalist church

The first mistake is 'teaching' the Bible. The word of God must be received. Teaching alone denotes right and wrong and leads to judgmental, presupposed influences in peoples lives.

Your question is in error. Christians do not say this at all. You are free to read the Bible and come to your own conclusions..

Philippians 2:12-13

"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. "

Yup, that about sums it up. But they don't see it that way, they see it as a good thing. If you don't question, then you can't be led astray. They never think of it from an entrepreneurial standpoint. They like to imagine that the business side of things doesn't exist in the church.

Unfortunately there are Christians and churches out there that try to shove the Bible and Christian doctrine down your throat and discourage questioning, but I've found that they are few and far between. Questioning things is part of how we learn and grow, and most scholars, most theologians, and most people I know encourage questions as it is a part of learning.

Because if you read and study the bible you realize "many plain and precious truths" have been removed. This leads you to question whomever is passing around the collection plate.

My church has never taught this. We don't question the truth of the bible but we often question our own understanding.

There are a great deal of Christian churches that welcome and encourage questions. Whether it be the religion/church itself, God or the Bible. There are still a few that get really upset if you do, I'd suggest to steer clear of them.
