It depends on you. Do you think you dog is worth it? Pet Insurance is great, especially if you own a pure breed dog that is genetically predisposed to certain medical problems. I think it is especially worth it if, when the time comes, you will be hard up for cash for a $2000 foreign body removal, $5000 GDV surgery or like we did this week, $7000 in fracture repairs (yes, the dog broke all 4 legs).
There are many different plans that cover emergency situations only, preventative care (vaccines, heartworm prev and disease, neutering, dentals, etc), and some that cover both.
Many work on a reimbursement only plan - you pay the bill, send in the paper work and they reimburse you, usually within 10 business days.
Some will pay out a certain amount for different illnesses, chronic conditions, etc some have a cap on these. Most have a copay amount or percentage that you are responsible for.
Monthly fees are usually pretty low. Most give discounts for spayed and neutered pets, microchipping, multiple pet plans, etc.
All companies are different so be sure to evaluate them carefully and select the best one for you.

Absolutely worth it if this is a serious question?
If you have a dearly loved pet and say it got hit by a car, you were then faced with a choice of surgery (that could save it's life) at £1500 or because you can't afford the bill having pet euthanised.
Insurance takes away the need to ever face that decision, because the ins co will pay, less your excess.
They should also pay for any chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, epilepsy, arthritis.
Just make sure to read the small print.
Vaccinations need to be update to date for most ins co.
Make sure your dog has got cover for life, not just for one year of a particular illness/accident.
You want a policy that gives you at least £6000 a year in vet fees.

We had the Veternary Pet Insurance (brand) the first year we had our puppy since she was going in for immunizations frequently.. It was nice to get partial reimbursement for her office visits as well as her flea/tick regimen.. It also cover some of her spaying.. However, after all the first year stuff we decided to get rid of it.. We had found a flea/tick regimen that was $25 cheaper a month and her health is fine... Good luck....

I go to Banfield, a veterinary office found throughout PetSmarts all over the country. They offer different wellness plans ranging in price and additions. I have found that it saves me so much money, and having an Atopic doberman (allergies), it has saved me alot of money, with the free office visits, teeth cleanings, testing, and shots. Hope this helps!

if you're pet gets injured or has to be taken to the vet the insurers will reemberse it. if your dog is always getting into trouble it is totally worth it. if they are not then it is a total waste of money.
