These responses are great! I've taken marketing classes and spoken with ad & marketing people and they try to streamline demographics based on age, gender, income level and place the ads in magazines, and on radio and TV based on who's viewing or listening. They even read psychological studies to determine what colors create different moods and produce certain images in our minds so I figured I'd ask people in a random environment like this. I've tried cheaper products and I've tried different stores to see what's cheaper and what's available. I genuinely appreciate brands who haven't changed, like Dinty Moore Beef Stew. Same taste, same label. Chicken in A Bisket same thing. I use Sam's for most stuff, but get perishable stuff like fruits at Publix or when I'm in the mood for something not worth buying in bulk at Sam's. Thanks for all of your answers, it was very helpful!

Brand of food? I'll try anything on sale, and if I don't like it I don't buy it again. Like mac & cheese. I have to stick with Kraft. Hot dogs always have to be Nathan's. Doesn't matter where I buy from. Canned or frozen veggies can be any brand, they're all canned at the same place anyway with a different label slapped on them.

As far as a chain, I know that Safeway saves me the most money, but there's certain things that I can only get at Albertsons. But I will try never to buy from a Hy-Vee again. They screw their employees. Sometimes literally.

I tend to shop at one local store that is employee owned. They know that how they treat the customer will affect their store's profits, so they tend to be a lot more helpful than a lot of the chain store employees are.

The store is also big enough to have just about anything I regularly buy, but small enough for someone who's disabled to shop there with ease.

I like the Paul Newman's Own brand because it is a charitable organization AND their products are first rate. (really good microwave popcorn, for example)

I like chain stores that are either employee-owned or at least owned locally.

I try to be socially conscious about where I spend my money.
