I know its not the same but I can draw pretty good and have an extreme intrest in tattooing, and not because its cool or glamourous, but because its another way I can express my artistic abilities...

for sure start making a portfolio...but also look into the classes you will need to take to have the artist look at you seriously...youll for sure need cpr and first aide, as well as blood born pathogens and human anatomy...if you go to a shop with all that youll be a better option than most the idiots that walk in there all half ***...even if you dont have them done but have PROOF you have signed up for classes they will know that you are truly intrested

make a portfolio of your art... drawings, paintings, anything... bring it into tattoo shops, and ask.... The reason you should bring any type of art you do is to show not only artistic talent, but artistic composition as well,... composition is vitally important for placement puropses.
