My daughter is your age and I just got her a guinea pig-- it costs a little more money, and the cage has to be a bit bigger, but it is totally worth it. Guinea pigs are far more gentle than hamsters, and like being handled. My daughter does all the care herself and says it is not bad at all cleaning the cage. They also live quite a bit longer-- about 5 years or so. Even as an adult any hamsters I've had have died within weeks.

Hamsters can draw blood, you know. That doesn't mean they will, but some of them can be mean. As an adult, I can tell you that if she promised, she should've kept her promise. If it's not a promise you will keep, DON'T MAKE IT! I think her excuse it pretty thin, too, probably just to make you leave the topic alone, but she IS your mom. You have to obey her. If she's changed her mind, you need to respect that, too, whether she honors her word or not.

I understand her point, and if you can't keep your chores in order and room cleaned then she feels you are not mature enough to clean and care for a pet. Show her your maturity and learn to do your chores and keeping your space clean. Back in my day kids did as they were told without a price.

tell her you want a python, do some python research and present that to her. and when she say no, inform her that a hamster is a better choice anyway.

otherwise, she's your mom, she has her reasons, I'd listen to what she says.
