It is akin to having wishful thinking that let all the denominations of followers of Christianity be united under the Pope or whoever or whatever the sect the majority are following.

It is not that I do not wish to see the inter-sect conflict end and we all be solid as a rock to uphold the teaching of holy Quraan and guidance of the Hadis; rather it is my experience while living among Sunnis and Shiias that I have observed that these two have too much differences in their core belief post Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) events that they are at loggerhead to make any headway towards reconciliation.

That chance of making these two divergent sects come closer were lost when Imam Khomeini came to power in February 1979 when he could have called meeting of great minds of both the sects and could have given some concession from the Shiia's point of views and beliefs for coming to a minimum level of understanding.

But the war between Iran and Iraq provoked by the notorious Saddam Hussein diverted his time, energy and money, apart from his blessings to go Anti-American that almost crippled Iranian economy and regressed the progress of otherwise a beautiful nation with wonderful people.

Now it would be difficult and/or an uphill task for any grand Ayatollah to come forward and open some sort of discussions as to how to minimize conflicts and misunderstanding among the Shiia and Sunni sects. We just hope that Iran gets another Ayatollah of the stature of Khomeini who may one day help bridge the gap, Amen!

Yes I am with you. I am neither of them you mentioned, just a muslim that Allah wants us to be. And these fights is all due to ignorance and arise from the people who have less knowledge about Islam. We are supposed to Follow Allah's commeands that is in the Holy Quran and the sayings of the Prophet muhammed (saw) then only we will be on the right path. May Allah bless us all!

I'm with you. Diversity is good, but it can lead to disagreements, hatred and eventually war. We should all unite under one thing, where it be Islam, or simply being human.

This useless war over whose sect is better is a disgrace to the name of Islam. Those who support it are hypocrites, as the Qur'an states that Islam should not be divided into sects.

hey dude! I am not muslim, but agree with you that yall should not kill each other for having different twists on the same religion. Imagine if Babtists killed Catholics because we hold worship in slightly even drastically different ways.
God does not approve of violence. He is of love and its just plain STUPID for people to kill for centuries over a difference of perception. What yall might consider is figuring out intellectually, if someone altered what Mahommed said, for their own reasons. Why would he teach goodness, and then throw in killing to get your own way.? He wouldn't. I added you because I would like to know those answers as well and appreciate your questions.

Isn't the real issue Eternal Damnation or Eternal Hell or some after life penalty or reward that one is supposed to get for being a devout one or the other? Isn't this all hokus pokus? Why don't eternal damnation worshipping religions cut to the chase and admit that they worship a myth? I can see living civilly amongst each other, but this extreme worship of something that cannot be proven to exist and makes no sense if there is one God who is everywhere? What gives?

The only thing better about some Christians is that they supposedly don't kill for this reason! But they sure do discrimate all to heck!
