Each state has it's own requirements on what minimum insurance you need.
As for getting comprehensive, it's a good idea to have it, just in case you need a new windscreen, you hit a tree, you kill your engine by running into deep water, etc.

Okay then. On any car in most state(not all states though) that is used, you need to have the minimum liability which comes with uninsured driver at the same time. On new cars though, you HAVE to have complete insurance. Comprehensive insurance covers both the liability AND the uninsured driver issues plus things like theft and animal accidents. In fact, there IS a little thing about banks to whom may have given you the loan to buy the new-to-you car/vehicle that they will make YOU have to have full coverage BECAUSE the bank gave you the loan to buy the vehicle. Complete coverage covers everything and then some in most of the fifty states. If you can afford it)which in this case you may very well have to anyways), go for the complete coverage for as long as the loan from the bank is being paid off. When the car is paid off, then drop down to comprehensive coverage. You won't regret it.

It's entirely up to you, unless you have a loan on the car and they require full coverage. Comprehensive covers any damage to your car that is not caused by collision. Vandalism, fire, weather damage, falling trees, rockslides, etc. etc. If you have collision insurance, it seems to me you'd want comprehensive too, just to cover all the bases.

just get full coverage on it,this takes the place of comp,it should cover the same things as comp does and more, most people carry comp on older vehicles, and full coverage on ones like you just bought,if i was paying on it still,id want the best coverage i could get, good luck with it.,,PS if you owe money on it the bank will require full coverage on it.

it's a personal choice based on your driving and the value of the car, all you legally have to carry is liability
