I would buy one for each car the child rides in. It is really important that each car seat is in properly, and once you get it in the right position you don't want to be taking it out all the time because the next time you put it in, you may be in a rush and not do it correctly. It's just really important to make sure that they don't budge! I would say yes to buying two.

There are a number of different answers for your particular question... If you end up getting a "travel system" like the GRACO SNUGRIDE you can use the infant carseat/base up to I think 20 lbs. or so.. Extra bases "new" are approximately $40 a base.. However, if you know someone that has even an older model SNUGRIDE they all take the same base.. I picked up one at a garage sale for about $10... Just be sure the carseat in question has not been in an auto accident or been recalled... Our travel system just sits in the garage, so ask around people you know that may have children that have outgrown their carseats.. The other thing you can do is to buy a carseat or carseats that are convertable a 3 in 1 is nice since it's good for infants, toddlers and older children.. WE have a TITAN that was under $100 and we are still using it for our 1 yr. old/3 yr. old you will spend a bit more but, use it much longer than the "travel system" It also depends on the type of car(s) you have the ease of installation and if you want to switch carseats all the time... We have 2 cars and my husband takes the car w/o the seats in it to work.. I drive the car that has the carseats.. That just works for us.. Good luck....

I am a mother of 2 and I have learned from experience so if you don't want the hassel of moving the seat from one car to another get 2 seats. PLEASE make sure you get the "CONVERTIBLE" car seats and not just the infant car seat/carrier. The reason I say this is because they give more support, are better for bigger babies, plus your child will be in an infant seat for all of 7-9 months, then you will need to spend more money on a convertible car seat. Don't be fooled by those all-in-one deals with the stroller and pop in base. To me it is just a waste of money.

Buy a car seat that can be locked into an unlocked from a base. Then buy a seperate base. Put one base in each car and you can easily remove your car seat from one car and switch it over without unstrapping any seat belts.

The base of the infant carrier/car seats is very easy to put in and out of the car so we only had one of those that was trandfered from my SUV to my babysitters SUV to my mom's SUV to my husband's truck everyday, since it way so easy to move the base it wasn't a big deal. When she outgrew the carrier car seat we bought everyone a car seat, Me, Babysitter, both Grandmas and of course Daddy. Those aren't easy to move from vehicle to vehicle!

yes I would have more than one car seat because it is a hassle switching from car to car and even if one of the grandparents if they are going to spending alot of time with them

I have one for each of my cars. It makes it easier to have one in each car. But if you have limited funds then you can do it with only one car seat. Grates on the new baby.
Good Luck

one is usually good enough but you can buy an extra base to make things easier when using different cars!! when your child is big enough for forward facing seats then you might want two seats.
