there are many reasons for not remembering things. from stress to depression and hormones can also effect your memory. If you are young it should pass in time. I very rarely remember my dreams but it is said that we all dream every night just most do not remember them. one good thing is if you don't remember your dreams then at least your not having nightmares. take care good luck.

Since I had an auto accident, a few years ago, I have had memory problems too. So, I'll share with you some of what has been working.
-Work with a psychologist to address the memory loss, they can coach and observe, making note of some things you may be simply unaware of.
-Lower your stress. The more areas you need to "keep up on" and the more times you need to perform with time limits, the higher your stress
-Consider your relationships for stressful areas. Are you dealing with anger, arguments, discord?
-How often are you sleeping? How much do you get?
-Yes, even your eating. What you eat, when you eat, how often, how much?
-Are you getting yourself outside? Moving your body? Getting some exercise?
-How often do you talk with adults in provocative conversation? - exercising and educating the old brain?
-Reading, are you learning constantly? Challenging yourself?
-Projects. Are you working your brain to try to figure things out? Anything from crossword puzzles, to assembling swing sets, or constructing where you need to measure and cut and do a little math?

(Here I'll probably repeat what every body else has said,)
Start with a paper and pencil to improve your memory, oh yeah, remember to take the paper with you, pull it out of your pocket and read it. To exercise your memory, go to the grocery store with an exact list. Do your best to pick up every item - then check your list before you reach the check-out.

For Dates and times. The old calendar on the wall is your best bet. Look at today's date box before you leave in the morning.

As brain exercise, play some games often with other people. Something where you need to think and remember.
Scrabble is my favorite. But other things like UNO can be good too.

If you don't use it , you tend to lose it.
Mine is improving more and more.

Memory depends on reconstructing events using imagination. Use imagination.
