A long time ago American Express started giving gold cards to better customers that had a special line of credit behind the card. This started all the colored card nonsense.

Different banks promote the colors differently. Some have special services for people who travel a lot that are different. Many don't.

If you value yourself by the the color of your card an impressing the clerk, I'm sorry for you. (The clerk isn't impressed; he only cares if the charge clears.)

Platinum is actually a higher stance than Gold. So they upgraded you. But it means absolutley nothing most of the time. I had a platinum visa with a $2500 limit with no rewards. At the same time I had another regular Visa with $10,000 limit with rewards. Its just giberish to intice you
