Can you choose to stop being gay if you really are? If you can than my advice is go ahead since it will make life easier. Please don't fake it though and end up breaking some poor persons heart when you can't live the lie anymore.
Many people who are gay have stated that although their lives in many ways are much harder they can not choose to not be gay. They are the way they are and its not a choice. They often face social stigma, rejection from peers and family, potential loss of job, and far greater hurdles to do things we take for granted like settling down and having a family. I think that probably has a lot to do with the suicide rate.

Possible because in teenagers their psyche's are still a work in progress. Things like peer and family disapproval, as well as the heavy hand of the religious fundamentalist, can weigh heavily on them, some begin to think there is no hope for them at all in the world about being accepted for who they are.
What you don't get from raw data is where the suicides occur. I'm betting it's higher is close knit communities and small towns.

I am really sick of people like you with your anti-Christian garbage. Christians aren't the only group who object to homosexuality as most groups around the world find the practice to be abhorrent.
Oh and by the way, straight white males have some of the highest suicide rates in the country. Hmmm... whose to blame for that? Black females such as me tend to have the lowest, and we and are held in the lowest regard not just in America, but around the world. The low rate of suicide amongst African-American females is due in large part to our Christian faith.
As far as homosexuality being biological determined, there is no scientific study in the world to prove that it is. In fact, a 90’s study on twins proves the opposite:
The third study, which was conducted by Bailey and Pillard, focused on twins. They found a concordance (both twins homosexual) rate of 52% among identical twins, 22% among non-identical twins and a 9.2 % among non-twins. This study actually provides support for environmental factors. If homosexuality were in the genetic code, all of the identical twins would have been homosexual (1991).
On a final note, you should assign blame to your empty, malignant narcissistic, hedonistic atheistic lifestyles for your suicides rates and not Christianity.
Signed,
African-America, Female, Straight, Christian and PROUD OF IT!!!

The Christian church declared open season on Gays decades ago. They are loud, mean, and aggressive enough to keep Gays in a constant defensive pose. When this kind of action takes place and few defend those put upon by the Christians it will lead to depression and possibly suicide....but even that is better than being beat-to-death by church sanctioned and coached murdering gangs of Christians.
This same subject came up 50 years ago when Black young people had high suicide rates and good, Bible thumping Christians hounded them to death and murdered many.

because even though it is out in the open now many still have that deep down feeling that it is not excepted. the older generation find it hard to except this concept, some will never except it, the fear is always their when they are out in public that someone will take an extreme offence it them.
Biblicaly it is wrong, which can put pressure on teens that are searching for answers.

going against your conscience....even if there are "good" reasons is damaging to your mental health. And then there is the issue of feeling alone against the world ...being without support. That is HUGE! Another reason is that a lot of gays feel they cannot turn to God....which is totally wrong! God knows every heart and every situation. He is the judge...not men. If you are without hope....what is there to live for?

maybe the rate is high because being gay isnt accepted among alot of people.. the gay child feels unaccepted by many including their parents....and threatened even.. its sad because I know many gay people who are very accomplished and beneficial to this world.

Because the 'loving' religions of this world want to make sure you KNOW you are going to hell, and they do their best to make your life living hell here while on earth as well!
It's too bad they have more hate in their hearts for gays than love - and for that - I would like to apologize for their ignorance!!
(I'm not gay, nor religious)

Probably because they're miserable from being rejected by their families and hated by society. I don't need to be a statistician too figure that out. NO ONE chooses to be gay, there is no benefit. You are what you are....

People who commit suicide for whatever reasons probably do it because they believe that's their best choice.
I don't agree with them, but it's their choice, not mine.
I don't think gay has much to do with anything. It's just a matter of people defining what they 'are' by what they do with their genitals. Crazy way to look at life.
